Just don't understand curling. And why it qualifies as an Olympic sport.

There is a whole pile of elite athletes doing remarkable things and every time I tune in it is mother****ing figure skating.

The commentators are atrocious for most of what I've seen. **** figure skating. Other than the US/Russia hockey match there haven't been a lot of replays that I've seen. Costas has to give social commentary.

There just isn't anything I like about it or even think they're doing an adequate job of.
You need to watch channels other than NBC then. The hockey games are on NBCSN, and they've got other stuff on USA, MSNBC, and CNBC. Also, for literally EVERYTHING, there's http://www.nbcolympics.com.

(And if you don't like figure skating, blame all the people who watch it and drive the ratings up. All they do is show the stuff that people watch.)

This thread got me wondering about the relative popularity of various Olympic sports, which led me to a Google search that revealed this article:

http://www.businessinsider.com/most-...-sports-2014-2

So, what's the most popular Olympic sport in the U.S. as measured by social media discussion activity?

Figure skating.

You throw the rock, you hit the the rock, and you sweep the ice. I'd still take it over all these judged sports.

Though I struggle with the judged events as well, I do like watching a lot of them - especially some of the freestyle skiing and snowboarding events.

I didn't understand it until I started watching it this year. There's a ton of strategy and skill. Plus, there are some really hot women playing the sport in the Olympics this year. I'm shallow that way. Heh.

Curling is sort of a combination of bowling and shuffleboard on ice.

I have no idea how Curling qualifies as an Olympic sport, but I'm sure there's a ton of history behind it in alot of these countries. its just not popular in US culture.

Its kinda cool to watch though, and yes, some of the girls are smokin hot. Russia had a couple of hotties playing yesterday.

Oh, I have no problem with watching several of the judged sports. Most of them are entertaining enough. But I think there's value to those sports that award winners based simply on merit (hockey, alpine skiing, speed skating, cross country, curling, etc.) which you don't often get with judged sports (where subjective biases and even outright corruption come into play).

It's all good untill they start screaming (at levels simply not needed).

It's cool. I like it, and during the Olympics I even like figure skating. Other than seeing it in person (which is all the more amazing), it's the one time I really enjoy it.

That being said, i still wish they'd make wrestling a summer and winter Olympic game sport.

Sounds like some Russian fans are protesting the net dislodging call in the USA/Russia game. They're calling to make the American ref into 'soap'. Maybe they should watch a replay of the 1972 basketball game and just chill out.
