Reading Nothing But Positives About Our D Line

Either our o line isnt so great or our d line is gonna be nasty. Everyone i spoke to at the camp or anything ive read online says the d line looks completely dominant. Poe is a ****ing 340 lbs bear, Bailey looks HUGE at over 300 lbs and Catapano might be one of the leanest 295 lbs guys in the NFL. I heard all these guys are killing it and I heard maybe the MOST impressive of them all is Mike Devito! Hearing he is leaner and faster and has simply destroyed every drill against the o line. I was looking for pics and found these...any good pics of Devito? I'm excited about this defense and i wont lie......just a bit nervous about this o line for some reason but hopefully they prove otherwise.

Welp. I knew someday we would see eye to eye. It's funny. The chiefs were up, holding down the chargers when a freak thing happened and the chiefs premiere pass rushers both went down. All of a sudden a suspect secondary was completely exposed, and people blame sutton for lack of adjustments. Jesus Christ.

He will use it. And now if hali or houston are hurt he has a beast behind them. But. I'm telling you now. Chris Owens is awful. AW****INGFUL.

He's going to be able to provide some pass rush TJax only could have dreamed of. One of these DL have to take a major step up this season....whether it's Catapano, Devito, or Bailey...someone is going to have to do it. Haven't heard much of this Walker guy....which I don't know if that's a good thing or not. But it's only been 1 wk of camp...def not time to worry. But the DL will have to be outstanding this year because our CB's are going to be dogshit. Yup...D-O-G-S-H-I-T.
We'll let's hope our CB play has improved :-/. I won't lie, this and the o line scare me a bit. As far as Cat stopping the run...there is a BIG difference playing d line at 275 (last season) and 295 now. Seeing his speed on tape at that size is very encouraging. Not many guy at nearly 300 lbs can move like that. Between him, Bailey, Walker, Poe and a reportedly improved Devito I'm excited to see if the d can return to early 2013 form....plus now with Ford as an extra weapon too it's nice and at least for this year give us depth at OLB with 3 big time speed edge rushers. I would love to see them 3 and Cat in a sub package on 3rd and long. Can't block them all. Plus can stand one up and send Johnson or whatever...maybe send those 4 AND Johnson!...creates interesting possibilities

Exactly. It's hard to run your scheme when you're that limited, and then your top pass rushers get injured. I by no means think Sutton is perfect but he needs the type of players and depth to run HIS defense before we can make a true judgment of his abilities.

Our D is getting flagged a lot for PI and holding?

That's a good sign. IF there's one thing I learned from the superbowl it's this: Refs won't call pass interference or holding on every play... so just do it every play.

That's what the ravens did in 2012, and that's what the seahawks did in 2013. Teams with the highest rates of pass interference, in the 'new age' of the NFL, are generally the best defenses in the league.

Late last year KC's D was putting up 'career day defense' numbers. Dick Vermeil defense numbers.

You compare KC's 2013 D with the 2004 D in terms of talent... there's no excuse for them to be playing at that level. I understand the struggles, but there's a difference between struggling and being completely and utterly outclassed in every area. That should only happen when you're rolling with an entire squad of 2nd string caliber players like KC used to do back in DV's day.

You simply cannot convince me that the holes in KC"s D excuses how bad that D actually played late last season. The goddamn 2nd team defense completely outclassed them in the 1 game they played when you compare it to later in the season.

I've never seen a defense switch from performing so well to performing so poorly. I've seen better performances from more limited personnel.

You combine those weaknesses with the loss of Houston to injury for most of the 2nd half, Hali playing at less than 100%, and a fatigued Poe, you have a recipe for collapse.

That first half performance was also enhanced by playing a bunch of scrub QBs and bad teams.

This defense wasn't nearly as good as it's first half performance, but neither was it as bad as it's second half.

There was something of a smoke and mirrors quality to the entire season.

Referees are going to flag illegal contact and DPI much more often this season.

My guess is Poe continues to ascend but tails off again unless we get true relief for him at NT.

Catapano will be average and Bailey will be about the same. Neither are starting material.

I'm mostly excited about that guy we signed in FA. I forgot his name so I'm sure he's awesome.

Why did Sutton refuse to even try to replace or rotate players? You couldn't put Abdullah in for a start instead of Lewis? You had to wear Poe out by the 10th game of the season? You couldn't put Smith man-on-man on TY Hilton after Flowers went out and Indy started their run?

Vance Walker. He's certainly a more proven pass rusher than any KC DL other than Poe, but everyone seems to want to talk about how Catapano put on weight.

Numerous why's about Sutton that aren't covered by 'it's only 1 year' or 'lack of player flexibility'

every Chiefs fan better be praying to whomever they deem fit that Sutton doesn't suck because a crappy coordinator will kill just about any situation and usually takes years before a team dumps them.

This is why I say Reid is a poor man's Vermeil. They both have good offensive minds (Vermeil better clock management and downfield), but will rely entirely on their D coordinators. Sometimes its good (Reid with Johnson) and other times bad (Reid without Johnson and DV with GROB and Gunther).
