Call of Duty will go head-to-head with Battlefield 3 in 2011.

The third game in the series, which will be shown to press during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, is set for release this coming fall, Electronic Arts confirmed.

The publisher revealed the first teaser trailer for the game on its official website tonight. The trailer, which contains no actual gameplay, displays quick cuts of helicopters, ground troops, tanks and fighter jets.

Additional details courtesy of the official Battlefield Blog confirm a full single-player and co-op campaign, jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer for the PC version. The Frostbite 2 engine will power the game and a Limited Edition will be revealed around GDC.

Developer DICE confirmed earlier this morning it was canceling the release of Battlefield 1943 and the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught pack for PC.

I wonder what kind of game modes will be implemented, or if it'll be the same Conquest, Rush etc.This is the first game I've played online, so I'm not sure what other modes are in COD/MW series that BF may try to mimic.

First is gonna be the CQB maps, then in the fall it will be huge vehicle based maps ARMORED KILL (all new vehicles)...including "the largest map Dice has ever built" and then the third will come in the winter and it's called END GAME and apparently it will end all of humanity.

COD/MW could learn a thing or two from not putting out a rushed/hap-hazzard game together each year.

It'll be the same shit just new maps. I don't mind small maps. I usually play a little deathmatch type games to get warmed up anyway.

You know, this first expansion will offer maps that are probably similar in size to COD/MW, but once you consider the 3 DLCs together, i bet we end up with a very good balance of awesome close quarter and huge vehicle based maps.

LOL, no they'll just hang back and snipe on Conquest maps and neglect to defend on Rush as always.

Had a really good couple of games last night. Managed to hook up with a few dudes (NTTAWWT) in a squad that understood how to play. We kicked arse; got the Ace squad ribbon a few times. Sadly, however, everyone on the other team slowly quit/dropped out until there weren’t enough players etc. backed out, and the rest of the night played with randoms who didn’t k now WTF they were doing. Like running right past a neutral flag/open flag. Camping in the most random of spots…..all sorts of BS.

Oh well; it happens I suppose. the first 5 or 6 games made it worth it though.
