Any Astro-photographers or semi-pro photographers?
I am looking to do just some basic astro photography. Shots of the moon and such. Nothing connected to a telescope, not now anyway.

Anyhow, what would be a good camera to get that will not break me?

I saw a picture a guy took of a canyon undr a full moon and the pciture came out with a blue sky and you could still see all the stars. It was pretty awesome but basic as I understood it. That is the type of stuff I am talking about doing.

If you take photographs right after dusk (right after the sun sets), you're going to get a lighter more royal blue sky. It's a great time to take photos that include the sky - early morning before the sun breaks and early evening when the sun sets - shooting towards the sun.

Here's one that I took:

Oh, also - a good camera to get is the Canon EOS Rebel XTI.

Cool! The pic I saw I guess the guy basically just opened his lens as wide as it would go and left it open for like 2 min or so....and the light from the full moon made the the sky blue on film since obviously the camera was sensative enough to capture that much light.

I want to throw this out for anyone wanting a challenge. Over on the kansas side by the Kansas river just south of the legends there is the kansas river that you drive over there. Right now they have large Ditch diggers like in the water piling up the dam on the west side of the bridge. I wish I could have snapped a picture because it looks like this things are floating on the water but they drove out in the middle on the rocks underneth of the dam. It would make for a crazy picture if you could take one like these ditch digger cattipillar's are floating on water. especially in the morning with the haze

Night photography is actually one of my favorite things (though I haven't taken the opportunity to do nearly enough of it). The challenge of trying to figure out what the best film speed, plus the length of exposure for any given lighting condition is a lot of fun for me...

You can't go wrong with Canon. I went with the Sony a100 because of the image stabilization. I too dig the night shots and I really dig the motion blur that you can get from movement.
