Dem Rep Ellison: ‘Very Good Idea’ for Government to Regulate CEO Pay

But they're not commies or even fascists! Riiiiight!
Wednesday on Bloomberg, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) said the government should “start talking about” regulating pay disparities between CEOs and the average worker....

Ellison said, “As you know, under the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Act, it became required that the publicly traded companies would have to report the ratio between CEO pay and the median worker. It took about five years or more for the Securities Exchange Commission to create a rule. They finally did so now we have a data set of about 225 public the traded companies. We find that CEOs are paid an exorbitant amount of money’s compared workers. How bad and extreme it was really was shocking to me.”...

When asked if he is advocating government regulation, Ellison said,”I think it is a very good idea. We should start talking about it.”

It falls under the Thirteenth Amendment. Human trafficking is involuntary servitude.

You're right about drugs—it's not a federal matter but a state one—unless it's coming in via national border. Still, it's another false equivalence to a CEO's pay.

While some legislators enjoy six-figure pay and seven-figure benefits, some are bothered by CEO compensation.

It's worked wonderfully so far. Thank you for your service. The economy has been booming (those few recessions... just hiccups), America has been a powerhouse at job creation, our government isn't several hundred trillions of dollars in debt. Spare me the ****ing lecture about what a wonderful economy you've left us with. Excuse me if I'm not giving you a standing ovation for all the wonderful job creation.

I am not unhappy or bottom bitching. I don't give a shit what my boss makes. It's possible for successful people to realize that our corporations are not run even close to perfectly. I'm sorry that your head is so far up its ass that you won't accept even the smallest shred of pushback.

American companies received over $110B in public money. But yeah, corporate welfare is barely a mouse fart. None of that money is dirty. All of that money is used toward the public good. In no way do corporations benefit off of government more than they need to.

Well, quite obviously, if Congress wanted to end the practice - it would only require a vote. Won't happen, however. Politicians LOVE money as much as the rest of us.

And those Rolex Presidentials and Submariners costs much denaro....Not to mention those well earned "contributions" to their re-election campaigns - be they republican or democrat.

Would take way more than a vote. These practices are entrenched federally and locally. And look at a place like Chicago. Even if you had rules in place, would anyone care? Behind most of those deals is a politician and a business (larger businesses) that negotiated a slimy public deal where that business accepted some major public benefit. Behind those deals was a corporate hired lobbyist who was determining how your public money was to be spent.

It's astonishing that with how much public money goes into corporate welfare, there are those who hate government who don't acknowledge it exists, and that corporations and government are not even close to being mutually exclusive.

Ive always loved the corporate welfare dance. It fits in every anti business, pro big government regulation pushing rant. And where are the examples of corporate welfare? Just a throw away line that leftists can rally around.

Not all of it is. For example, the TVPA makes it illegal to "knowingly in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, entice a minor to engage in a commercial sex act."

This action does not in involve involuntary servitude, and ithe laws constitutionality has been upheld under the commerce clause (as would any other aspect of human trafficking laws).

One example? Really?
http://thefederalist.com/2013/09/30/...orate-welfare/
Take a look at what the Federalist has to say. Not exactly a "leftist" publication. Take a look at everything they write about corporate welfare - better yet, maybe read up on Amazon and Amazon HQ2. $2500 per taxpayer ($6K per taxpayer per "leftist" calculations).

I've never seen you as anything but entirely apologetic for corporations. Your complete denial that this happens is not at all surprising.

Unfortunately, it's not just a leftist line.

Since you crudely just called someone a turd for their opinion, I will take the same approach, Baphomet.

Corporate welfare is not a complaint by the left only, but also by many on the right who actually do support limited govt unlike you, and who are not anti-business because they support free-markets.

Corporate welfare is cheered by big govt types like yourself. I know you defend subsidies because you've received them. So it's no wonder you got all triggered and foaming at the mouth. You have lost all credibility and are the real "loon" and "nutter."

As for calling him uniformed, you don't even know what the real definition of inflation is. You're nothing but a shill for the state.
