If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

Yes, Snoopy has tempered his praise of Alex from time to time ,admitting that Alex isn't the ultimate answer, can't put the team on his shoulders, has severe weaknesses, & etc.

The guy is not all bad.

Saying "spot on" threw me for a loop. I take umbrage with "spot on", so welcome to internet communication. So much harder than sitting on the next bar stool.

The owner is short sighted, settling for smaller money and ticket sales now, rather than larger money and ticket prices later off the back side of super bowl runs or wins.
I don't think the Chiefs see him as a temporary placeholder. If all goes according to the plan, he's the QBotP.

You're new here and they probably don't get much Chiefs news where you're from, but the Chiefs and their owner have already suffered through the bad play and the poor records over the past few years. They tore it down and they started putting pieces in place several years ago. It's time to start winning and striving for a championship again. The first architect (Scott Pioli) failed so the owner brought in a new team. With a team that has quite a bit of under-utilized talent in or entering the prime of their careers, it's no time to step back and start a new rebuild.

Just about Half of the "franchise qbs" have been drafted outside of the top half of the first round. Flacco, Rodgers, Wilson, Brady, Brees, Kaepernick.

Compared to Luck, Eli, Peyton, Ben, Cam, Ryan, Stafford.

I don't think Flacco or Rodgers go that far back with the current CBA. Although Flacco was a bit of a reach so who knows. The others had enough red flags to keep them down though.

I'd like to see what Bray can do in preseason and training camp.
It would be awesome if they like him so much that he becomes the #2 QB in 2014.

I'm not a Bray believer, but he has undeniable natural talent and I'd love for them to be able to unlock it and get his head in the game.

I'm really ignorant about the Chiefs as I've never followed them except when Marty Shottenheimer was coaching. Look at all the coaches that came from his coaching tree. Tomlin and Cowher had some real longevity and success. Even Dungy has a ring.

I really liked the Chiefs with Marty Schottenheimer, Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith, Christian Okoye, Albert Lewis, Deron Cherry.

I stopped following the Chiefs when they got Montana, but I still liked them because of Marty. I was spending all my time defending the Montana trade and Steve Young to friends and co-workers and it just soured me on the Chiefs, through no fault of their own. That didn't stop me from liking Priest Holmes.

Enough about me.

I read you loud and clear that Alex is the intended Chiefs QotF. I'm just on record predicting that won't happen. I may well be wrong? Let me check my crystal ball...

Nope, not wrong.

Who knows? But yes I agree that they hope for Alex to be their long-term answer. Giving up 2 high picks for him says that. Not signing him to an immediate contract extension says different. Grandpappy Manning got a 5 years contract from Elway. Alex's 2 years leftover contract speaks volumes about the doubt Dorsey has. It is very much "wait and see" right now.

Alex is supposed to be the long term QB, but I don't think he makes it. I think Fat Andy finds a better QB in the interim and uses Alex to mentor him, just like with Kaepernick.

I'm sure you hope I am right.

We have already suffered through years of bad play. So the argument- lets suck for a few more years is null and void. Since over 30% of SB's have been won by a Number 1 pick goes in Alex's favor- does it not? The chiefs have a #1 Picked QB without having to suffer through the growing pain curve that usually goes with it.

It is great you think Super Kape is the next Montana but the fact is he choked the SB away with poor decisions. Joe would have made the play to win it.

The mod already laughed at your stupid multiple account theory in another thread Harbernick so shut up. The funny thing is you are talking about Alex more than anyone else.

Flynn came cheap because he is an unknown.

My only point was that the Chiefs should have kept their 2- 2nd rounders and built their D or O-line or position players, while patiently waiting to find their franchise QB.

Instead, the owner forced Reid & Dorsey to "win now". Dumb owner.

But thanks for the picks! We love Tank Carradine and still have a 3rd and 7th for next year and your #50-60 overall for next year too.

So it is not like I don't appreciate benefiting from your owner's short sightedness. Believe me, I do.
Dorsey knows Flynn, and said of him when asked, he's a good locker room guy. I know the Raiders GM knows him too. This Chiefs team has talent, talent that can win. You seem to think we need to build for a run in two or three years. In two or three years some of the best talent on the team will need replaced. I'd rather have Alex Smith than Matt Flynn and Tank Carradine. Im sure Im in a minority there, but there you go.
