(CNN) -- A former Los Angeles police officer who police say has violently threatened his former colleagues shot at least two officers early Thursday, killing one, sparking a huge manhunt in Southern California, according to authorities.
Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, is also wanted in a double slaying Sunday in Irvine, California.
The California Highway Patrol issued an alert Thursday morning urging officers in several Southern California counties to be on the lookout for Dorner after the overnight shootings.
Two officers in Riverside were shot, one fatally, police there confirmed to CNN. CNN affiliate KTLA reported another officer was shot in Corona, California.
Irvine police identified Dorner on Wednesday as the suspect in the February 3 deaths of Keith Lawrence and Monica Quan in Irvine.
Dorner also has made violent threats against other Los Angeles police officers, the agency said Wednesday.
"I will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform whether on or off duty," Dorner allegedly wrote in a lengthy letter promising retribution against the department, where he worked from 2005 until 2008. An LAPD source provided the document to CNN.
The letter writer claimed he was terminated for reporting excessive force by a fellow officer, and said his attacks were retribution for his termination, as well as a culture of racism and violence he says continues within the department.
He called the attacks against police "a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name."
Los Angeles police warned people who encounter Dorner not to approach him, saying he is likely "armed and extremely dangerous."
"Our department is implementing all measures possible to ensure the safety of our LAPD personnel, their families and the Los Angeles community, and will continue to do so until Dorner is apprehended and all threats have been abated," police said in a statement.

You do realize that the FBI has many offices in Cali don't you? He did not have to leave the state. All he had to do was go to a news station and he would have had a televised escort.

Again, hundreds of rounds were shot into a wooden structure housing a propane tank. Buy into the theory that the one guy on scene who was responsible for making overall tactical decisions just happened to be near a mic at the precise moment that he decided to voice his plan if you want. I'm not.

I'm pretty sure Bin Laden isn't covered under the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. U.S. Citizen Dorner is.

Ehh I'm not a political person. Don't really care. I believe this guy died a death he deserved. Most people deserve a fair trial. He didn't. Their are exceptions for everything, he is an exception.

I addressed that point. Those that have already convicted the cops are just as wrong. Circumstantial evidence shouldn't be enough. But I think the fire argument was more a hypothetical than considered concrete. The cops will get their day in court just like the other guy should. Not for his benefit, but for ours. This guy is guilty, but maybe his trial will shine the light on more guilty of other crimes. Really it's not about this guy at all.

But you are correct, those that have already convicted the cops are using a double-standard. I just don't think anyone has. I think some are very suspicious, but I don't think anyone has convicted them yet.

If Bin Laden wanted to turn himself in they would have taken him alive just like Dorner could have. They are both killers who got the justice they deserved.

Would he need to know that to set a fire, shoot himself, and expect people to think the cops set the fire? Even if the cops played innocent and didnt say anything about starting a fire, people would still suspect they did, even if they claimed otherwise in their official statement.

Im just playing devils advocate here. But you shouldnt make statements like that when theres such an incredibly easy response.
