Do you hate Mike Thompson (weathermen)?

I am trying to watch American Idol tonight, and that camera attention grabbing Mike Thompson keeps interupting every 2 minutes to tell me about a storm on the missouri and Iowa border! Seriously, he must have cut in 5 times somtimes talking for like 15 minutes at a time just babbaling about this stupid storm. He even had the balls to cut in at the end so he could screw up the end of the show. I was so pissed. I was so glad the Bachelor was on channel 12 cause Busby is nice enough to flash in accross the bottom instead of cutting in to the show.

Unless it is an emergency, it should be against the law to cut into a show. I just feel they could wait to tell us about a bad widdle thunder storm during their own segment during the news.
I also hate it when they have that storm county tracker on the side of the tv. No sane person could possably know what the hell this thing even is trying to represent, yet it is this annoying blob blocking everything on the right of my TV.

Chiefsking - Have you tried to catch the local weather on the weather channel, even during a heavy storm? I hate it when the interupt my shows sometimes, but they have the responsibility to take care of everyone in their viewing area, not just here in KC.

The storm that he was reporting on touched a funnel cloud down near Davis City and wiped out a couple of farms.

You people bitching do realize that there hasn't been a SINGLE tornadic incident that killed 50 or more people since the 1940's right?

I can't believe people care that much about American Idol. It just goes to show you how spoiled rotten our society has become.

I didn't see this incident as I live in Mid-MO but I know the feeling. While I agree with Parker and some others that they have a responsibility to pass on severe weather info, it seems they could do it in less intrusive way.

I remember a couple of years ago a program started and about 10-15 in they broke into tell us of a possible tornado that was showing up on doppler radar. OK, cool, you've warned us. It's bad, take cover if you're in the path. But this went on for over an hour. They kept showing the same radar image and kept giving the same warning over and over and over. It became clear after a little while they were all caught up in their own importance and wanted to show off their new doppler radar thingy.

So I can understand the frustration.

Well, on the NBC station here they use PiP, so you watch your show on the upper 3/4 of the screen and you see the weather info on the left and bottom...

Very handy, because you get constant updates but don't miss anything...

The thing is, I wonder how many people actually take cover (or do anything) when they see a warning on TV. They should, but do they I wonder?

I think that getting the word out to the boonies for inclimate weather is a lot more important than what basicallly comes down to a insult infested singing contest.

You need to get out more if missing a teenager sing someone elses song is that important.

Thank you. That is the point I was trying to make. It doesn't matter if it is American Idol, a Chiefs game, or Monday night football. It is all the same. How would you feel if they cut in during a game? Howabout through out the entire game?
Ok, Mike Thompson, you've cut in and let us know about a storm, we will take cover from the rain, now, can you just leave us alone with it already?

By the way KC2003, no tv show affects people's lives. It is entertainment the same as a football game or movie show.

Are you shitting me? Thats about 4 miles from my family farm....I suppose I should call home...have family all over that area.

If this is true....you can shove your TV show in your arse if someone I know didn't croak because your precious teeny-bopper show was interupted.

How would you feel if they listened to all the people like you and 1000's of people died because of it?

I don't know, but when I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's it seemed like they were able to break in once, maybe twice, briefly describe where the bad weather was and what it was, and then move on. It wasn't an hour long continuing event.
And I don't remember any more fatalities then than there are now. Either people will take cover or they won't. Saying it over and over and over isn't going to change that.

Last night, the tornado siren was roaring in my town for 45 minutes...people go nuts here because there was a bad tornado in the 90's....

I stood on the front porch and had a beer and watched the sky most of the time...except the rain that was coming too hard and getting me wet and the hail.

The one in southern Iowa being complained about interupting that stupid TV show was VERY close to my family farm.

Iowanian, I caould give a **** less about the weather in Iowa! I don't live there so I don't need to be updated by them cutting in on a show about the weather there or near there. I have family in California, should they cut in to give me an update on a mud slide or forrest fire there? What about bad weather in Florida? My dad lives there, so they should cut in to keep everyone updated about a storm there. Again, I have no problem them letting me know at the bottom of the screen, it is just as affective! And this has nothing to do with what type of show they are cutting in on. What if they cut in on the whole game of Chiefs vs. Raiders? I bet you would here more complaining then.

we only had a little bit of rain in Lee's Summit. I little thunder, but nothing to head for cover for. If there are some places around here they should seek cover they can put it accross the bottom of the screen without interrupting the whole show so I can hear Joe Loria's opinion on a warning in Kansas, or northern Mo, or anywhere in Iowa!

I already said if it was an emergency I could understand. They interupted my show for an hour, did anyone get killed? I just got a little bit of rain. That was nothing they had to interupt the show for. By the way, you would have to be watching the show in the first place in order to get his warning.
