I figured I would start a thread for this and see what happens....there seemed to be quite a few viewers on the board for this show the past few weeks.....I like the direction the show is taking so far......episode 3 tonight at 7 central on ABC....

The first season will depict their first 40 days on the island, with each episode covering roughly 48 hours (except the 2-hour pilot which only covers their first 24 hours). The Biblical reference (40 days) is no accident.
Many of the writing team have a Minor in Sociology, which is going to help in writing character interactions.

Sawyer can be seen reading Watership Down, a classic novel in which a group of rabbits set out to make a new home, together in unfamiliar surroundings.

Numbers 2
If you add all the digits of the numbers plus Hurley's worth in america ($156 mil) 4+8+1+5+1+6+2+3+4+2+1+5+6=48 which is the same number of the original survivors on the island.
More with addition and subtraction
If you add up the numbers, 4+8+15+16+23+42=108, and subtract that from Hurley's net worth (156-108=48), again, it equals the number of survivors.

A Locke-centric episode.
Deux Ex Machina= God from the machine; refers to an
implausible ending where everything is solved and justice is served.
The episode title is also similar to the title of Chapter 48 of Watership Down "Dea ex Machina." (Watership Down is the book that Sawyer was reading that came from Boone's suitcase).

Deus ex machina"
Lost seems to have a habit of double meanings, or taking things literally in episode titles. "Walkabout" is an expedition, but has to do with Locke's situation as well. "Whatever the Case May Be" refers to what's in the briefcase. So "God in the machine" could very well mean Locke finding a way to open the large metal hatch, and finding something that gives this island its godlike powers and occurrences.

The title stems from the proper word "deus ex machina." The saying, simply put, is defined as a person or event that provides a sudden and unexpected solution to a difficulty

Seriously. I think that Charlie will be (or is) an evil person.

Too many things he has done has brought me to that belief.
Even though at times he seems like a decent guy. Thats my take anyway.

This was a great episode...and I agree with Titus...finally some plot line!!!

My take on the numbers...

4 8 15 16 23=66
(42) 4 2 = 6
666
(42) 7(good #) x 6(evil #)=42

according to the Psychic, Claire's baby is "evil" if she doesn't raise it...soooo

it's the Anti-Christ...

or maybe not...

cause it's not French...and everyone knows the Anti-Christ has to be French....

But maybe Ethan was stealing it for Danielle and then it becomes pseudo-kinda-French...
