Another good resouce for you. Call your county extension agent. They provide lots of ag info, and it's free. Be careful with that 2-4-D, don't let the wind blow it back on you.

The only chem that really worries me is the Ag strength Tordon. I've seen it used on Multi-flora roses and kill 20ft oak trees 30 yards away from the run off.

ive never had any problems or remember anyone talking about problems. Though im convinced that the DDT and Agent Orange combined w/ PTSD and huge amounts of booze led my oldman to an early grave. JMO though. But my grandpa used it for years and never had any health problems attributed to herbicides, and we always used alot of pesti/herbi products on the corn fields and in the garden. plus sprayed fence rows, ditches and around buildings.

That Tordon is some strong stuff. I just paint it on the stumps after cutting down thorny locust, and stuff like that. Kills the roots.

I guess you have to put me down in the more or less anti-poison crowd, Mr. MOhillbilly. Having come from farming stock, I am sensitive to the need to find and employ cost-effective and efficient means to control pests and unwanted plants. It's your livelihood after all. And, I'm certain that, in the right hands, these chemicals are generally safe to use. The concern and difficulty I have is that any idiot can buy and use these materials. And, there are a lot of idiots. The chemical companies can create pesticides and herbicides fairly inexpensively that will kill anything fast. Interestingly, they could also create and market environmentally friendly concoctions that would accomplish the same or similar result. A familiar story, I suppose. DDT being the most obvious and well publicised example. FAX |

they make herbicides now for the 'green' crowd. but its cost is high and is not effective.
