Yea - if you look at my roster - its a rebuilding project - I have no QB (Sanchez, Hasselback and Henne) are on short contracts - Foles since I drafted in the 4th round I kept for a longer time - (plus tier one is cheaper on rookie scale - keep them there the longest).

I have 8 players on 4+ year contracts
I have 11 players on 3 year contracts.
I have 10 players on 2 year contracts
I have 15 players on 1 year contracts (none worth mentioning) - but if 2 plays lights out this year I keep.

I only have 44 players on my team - hence why I am going after 10+ guys in FA.

All my players were old or out of the league for 1+ years.

I lack depth in a lot of positions - And I needed a true #1 CB - and I need a lot of LB. My strategy was to drive up on the price of the good players (like the redskins) if I lost out - no biggie - move on to my next objective. I have caps on what to spend per position per player.

I've only got 40 guys on my roster, and people getting angry because I'm competing with them on players in FA... I've got to sign 13 people and took over a shitty team, of course I'm gonna be bidding!

Technically you might if a team has 3 really good players on 2 or 3 year contracts (especially on drafts going forward) ... they will only be able to keep 2 players.

FA is a different beast every year - although i feel next year will be slim pickings - because you wont have guys that are GREAT on 1 year contracts, and even if they have a break out year, many will shell out a 5 year contract (especially on a lower tier) just to keep him on the roster... especially if he is younger...

Anyways - there are a lot of strategies to ponder - and i think league one is super active - and smart.

Damn - it's going to be hard to get anyone signed.

I couldn't even get Brandon friggen Stokely inked. Figure that's going to take another several days as well. I finally put in a bid on Manny Ramirez (the guard, not the guy playing left field in Japan) thinking I could get him signed up if nothing else.

We'll see if Rainman's right and we'll be happy about this 3 day thing later, but criminy, this is just agonizing.

WAY too much money out there. That's not a problem with the system it's simply a symptom of a lot of short term contracts and the fact that this is the first free agent period. It's just going to take a crap load of time for people to get money tied up in bids. The best way to track this is to go to the STANDINGS page and watch as the overall amounts drop. I don't expect any decent players to get signed until the average $$ amounts that teams have left start to drop to the double digits. Long ass way to go yet.

Yeah, that's been my big surprise as one of the designers. I figured that 95 percent of the talent was on rosters so 95% of the money would go to contracts. But I think it may have been more like 70%, which has caused some Zimbabwe-style inflation in this initial process. We'll see what happens next year.

The insane prices are making me reconsider my entire FA approach.

It's almost like it's more of a draft at this point. If you're blowing THAT MANY RESOURCES on players, might as well take BPA over need.

So, I know we are in the throes of ecstasy among multi billion dollar free agent contracts. However, I'm contemplating a switch to a 4-3 this year and was looking to see if any teams were looking at an opposite switch. I have an entire Dline available to deal if I can find similar parts of a 4-3 and/or other pieces. Some of these guys are long in the tooth, but still have a few good years left as fat boys, while Odrick is a long term keeper as a 3-4 DE.

LDE Jared Odrick - 24/4 years
NT Isaac Sopoaga - 30/3
NT/DE Ryan Pickett - 32/2
RDE Marcus Spears - 29/1

I'm not looking to part these guys out, I'm looking to find someone who has 4-3 pieces trying to go to a 3-4. What I am looking for is a good DE, a solid DT and a back up DE + whatever.

edit: ages are pre-2012 season

How do we know this is a Chiefs based league? When Jammal Brown, a 30 year old RT for the Skins who was injured the entirety of 2012 and is now a free agent has a $4 bid for his services, while a 16 game starter at RT for the Rams in 2012 has no bids whatsoever...

And everyone in free agency is overbidding for LBs and CBs.

The Provo Knuckledraggers would like to welcome our new tight end, Jeff Cumberland. Jeff, stay loose and wait for Gronk to die out there.

Jordan Cameron, please grab your play book and go see Ray Farmer.

I've got some 4-3 players and am going with 3-4, but none of the players above are really drawing my attention. If I had a prime NT I could move Fairley, but without a really good one or player that is of the caliber he is, I'd just assume play Fairly at nose even if he is listed as a DT.

If you see some pairings you see a clearly mutually beneficial you can throw run it by me, but I've talked to several people about similar deals already and everyone seems to want to try to get Fairley for a song and dance.

As a reminder to everyone, you can't submit further bids on free agents if your roster is over 53. So if you win a free agent and it pushes your roster over the limit, you need to make a cut.

Also, since we don't have a newswire yet, it'd be cool if you posted a notice of the player you cut so other owners who might have free agent interest in the guy know he's available.

If we have a bunch of bids out there and one one goes final to push us to 53, what happens to the others?
