Congrat Marty and the SD Chargers!

Wow! Tomillison sets the all time TD record w/ 3 games left. Marty has finally changed his ways and is now embracing the play to win mentality.

This would not have happened if not for A.J. Smith, Chargers's GM. The guy's goal is to win and bring SB's to the City. He forced Marty to change his ways. He has a less than pleasant relationship with Marty. He is a real ball buster. Marty will have him to thank if he finally wins a SB and reaches the HOF!

Just like DV when he came back from retirement to become the HC of the Rams and finally win a SB, they both had to change philosophies in order to get over the hump.

DV went to 2 SB's and won one, but was not able to reach the goal in KC. Marty was with 3 different teams before coming to SD, 10 years with the Chiefs with disappointment in the postseason year after year. It was only after AJ Smith became GM after the suddent death of the GM that hired Marty,Butler, that Marty was forced to change and the result is very apparent.

Winning in the NFL is a team sport. Good players and coaches are important, but going all the way entails a quality Front Office that plays an integral part in ensuring they get results from all its participants.

Looking forward to the beginning of a new era for the Chiefs, and the end of the CP era.

I only wanted Marty to win when he was here.

Now, I hate every team, coach and cheerleader who isn't a Chief.

Ok, some of the cheerleaders are alright I guess. They can remain alive....for now.

I still like Marty, since the Chiefs are eliminated I'm rooting for him.
Besides, the better the Chargers do the less they will be able to retain all of those players.

We're not eliminated. Not sure where you got that idea. Record-wise, we're only one game behind the fifth and sixth seeds (we're 8th), and tied with the 7th seed, with a game coming up against one of them.

Marty won his last 4 games to finish 8-8 in Washington. He has won everywhere else he has been. He has 197 career wins which puts him in the top 10 all time winningest coaches. Yeah, he just waits for talent to come to him.

Are you actually arguing with the guy whose argument was Marty is a crappy coach because he's like Phil Jackson?

That may be the worst argument in the history of this board. It needs no rebuttal.

Also considered for argument;

"Marty is a crap coach. He did the same thing Lance Armstrong does in cycling wait for shimano to build him a better bike."

Gonna have to side with you here, BL. The idea that Marty is a "crap" coach is patently false.

As for the "talent" argument, name me ONE Super Bowl-winning coach that won it all WITHOUT talent. That whole argument is BS. Coaches don't win Super Bowls without talented players. However, talented players can often be coached into LOSING.

And that's why I won't defend Marty or root for him now. He's NOT A VICTIM. He brought all of this criticism on himself. Everybody likes to compare him to Vermeil. Well, how many times has Vermeil has the most talented team in his conference? ONCE. And that year, he won it all.

Marty has had the best team in his conference AT LEAST TWICE (1997 Chiefs, Cleveland was it 86?) and it could be argued that he's had it twice more, 1 each with Cleveland and the 1995 Chiefs. And how many conference championships has he won?
