I got the G13 in the mail last night. I tried playing and it was SO HARD, lol. All my muscle memory that I developed from level 1 to 37 is GONE. I had to think really hard which button to press for each skill and sometimes didn't even remember what button a skill I needed at the time was assigned to... So frustrating. I don't think I have even found the most efficient way to map the skills yet. Hopefully in a few days, it'll feel as natural as my old trusty keyboard and I can really start firing on all cylinders. The weirdest thing for me by far was going from WASD to the little "analog" stick to move my character around.

2 or 3 weeks of solid gaming and you will have it down. I'm trying to teach myself the combo between the G13 and the Razor Naga.

I was thinking about getting the Naga as well, but damn, that thing just looks uncomfortable as hell! LOL

It's not uncomfortable. quite the opposite really. I will say it would be better if it was a little bit bigger and the buttons more spaced out. The only thing I can't use very well are the front and back buttons. My thumb just isn't long enough.

But trying to learn left hand for movement and some abilities and right hand for camer, targetting and other abilities is driving me nuts.

Yeah, it's all about the muscle memory. If anything is even a little bit off, it just feels weird. Re-memorizing your skills won't be too bad, though. Just give it a few days. However, transitioning off of WASD could take a bit more getting used to.

Are you a key turner or a mouse turner? My A and D (from WASD) are always set to strafe and I know I'm in the minority because a lot of the MMO payers use those to turn the character. I've always used the right click + drag mouse to turn my character so I have to apply counter-pressure with my thumb on the side of the mouse where Naga has the buttons (try picking up the mouse while holding the "right click" down without using your thumb, it's hard).

Hahaha, yeah... I kept trying to press the WASD equivalent keys on the G13 during combat (it's a reflex, I can't help it!), but those are now assigned to skills so it was screwing me up royally last night. I was a complete mess.

I am and always have been a clicker, and a key turner. Since i don't PVP, it's never really mattered.

I got the G13 because of all the macros in Rift, and i learned how to do my camera with the mouse. But in TOR, I went back to being a clicker and now have to train myself again to use it all. I decided to do this yesterday as I think ultimately it will be more efficient.

And I though, since i have the Naga as well, I can map a secondary bar of abilities to that so that I can have two full bars at my disposal without having to put my hands in any crazy configurations. I completely echo your "I'm a mess" sentiment.

I changed over to A-D strafing a couple of years ago, and I love it. I used to keep my main attacks/skills on the 1-5 keys (supplemented with the alt key), and my lesser-used support skills were on 6-0, which made them a bit hard to reach. Having strafing on A and D frees up Q and E to be my main action keys, which frees up some of the 1-5 keys, which allows me to bring in more of my support skills so that they're easier to hit.

Yeap, that's exactly what I did. That's still not enough for the 20+ abilities I have at level 37 (not including trinkets/medpacks/buffs). Some of them I can certainly click (like the droid CC one) but I'd like to have easy access to most of them should the need arise.

There are still many important skills to come before level 50 I imagine so that's why I decided to get the G13 (it frees up the WASD and gives you a bunch of accessible buttons all around). I don't think even that's going to be enough however. I'm going to have to set one of those buttons as a modifier and assign a bunch of skills that way. It's just ridiculous how much shit we have as Sentinels.

I'm sure I'll be able to trim the fat eventually, but it's a little overwhelming at this point when I don't get to slowly build my muscle memory up, gradually adding more and more buttons to my rotation (like when you level). Everything is already at my disposal and just makes me go "GAH! Where did I map my Saber Ward?! I NEEDS IT NOW!!"

I have 2 in the center (bottom) of the screen and one on each side. I would like to have 2 bars on each side.

That and adding the ability to reposition windows are two ways to greatly improve the UI.

Yeah, that is simply a must. They said they won't allow any mods to the UI yet, but they're working on improving it. Hopefully moving things around as you want is one of those improvements.

Does anyone else's chat window impede on the top slot of the left side bar?
