Shooting at TDKR Midnight Premiere in Aurora, CO. Multiple dead.

At least 10 moviegoers were killed and 39 injured at a cinema in the Colorado city of Aurora in the Denver suburbs. They were attending a midnight showing of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

The theater was packed with a lot of people, many of them young fans, at the time the shooting started, 9news reports. The violence erupted some 15 minutes after the movie started, witnesses said.

Some say that when they first heard the shooting, they thought it was some new type of special effect.

Local media reports that two gunmen were involved in the rampage. An explosive device was set off during the shooting, injuring several people.

Witnesses said the gunmen were probably wearing body armor and gas masks and used some kind of a tear gas bomb in the attack.

Some reports say police have apprehended one of the assailants while the second one is still at large.

Police have cleared people from the scene over fears that another explosive device might be on the premises.

Aurora medical services were alerted to attend to the large number of injured

Just not a gun person. Sorry. Just feel more guns means more chances for something unintentionally tragic happening. Not saying it's wrong, just not for me.

I think a large portion of the non-shooting training isthe phiosophy of use for carrying. I think the ultimate #1 thing is to GTFO of the situation if you can. If not, assess the situation and take appropriate actions to defend yourself first; then if need be, others.

Granted....I dont' have my CCW yet, but from those I've talked to who do, said the law/scenarios/philosophy of use was a larg chunk. the shooting was very small.

No personal experience here but Kevlar catches a bullet and keeps it from penetrating, doesn’t mean it won’t still suck getting shot.
The way a .45 spreads and delivers its energy I would think it’d suck bad, as in taking a couple to the chest would be like getting a Holyfield hook to the ribs. If a guy is big enough and methed up enough he might continue standing through that but a normal person wouldn’t.

I don't see how CCW is even a topic in here.

For the record I'm all for it but I don't see how it could have helped at all. Not one bit.

- Would it have stopped the evil person from attempting this?
I don't think so. No.

- Could they have stopped the killer from doing all the damage he did?
No. The guy whet in a dark movie theater, threw tear gas in and started firing. Everybody is looking at the screen. I'm sure it was mass ciaos as it ensued. Had someone pulled out their gun to try to stop this I think there's a very solid chance even more would have been injured or killed.

It's just a sad situation that unfortunately is unavoidable from time to time.

or, the XD. (I know they're two totally different guns etc).
A full size framed 1911 is hard to comfortably keep concealed. Go for a compact model.
I’m a big fan of the .45 ACP round for self-defense though so I understand wanting to keep one handy.

"Unintentional" is the key word. Either way this played out is a tragedy.

However, some theorize, more guns have led to less crime.

Gun ownership up, crime down: FBI violent-crime rates show safer nation with more gun owners
By Emily Miller
June 18, 2012

Gun-control advocates are noticeably silent when crime rates decline. Their multimillion-dollar lobbying efforts are designed to manufacture mass anxiety that every gun owner is a potential killer. The statistics show otherwise.

Last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that violent crime decreased 4 percent in 2011. The number of murders, rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults all went down, continuing a pattern.

This is not a one-year anomaly, but a steady decline in the FBI's violent-crime rates, said Andrew Arulanandam, spokesman for the National Rifle Association. It would be disingenuous for anyone to not credit increased self-defense laws to account for this decline.

Mr. Arulanandam pointed out that only a handful of states had concealed-carry programs 25 years ago, when the violent-crime rate peaked. Today, 41 states either allow carrying without a permit or have shall issue laws that make it easy for just about any noncriminal to get a permit. Illinois and Washington, D.C., are the only places that refuse to recognize the right to bear arms. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence did not respond to requests for comment.

yeah; if I go 1911 for CCW, I'm going to get something less than 5".

though, I like the idea of an XD/polymer .45, and using the 5" for shooting, home defense etc.

....decisions decisions.
