What to see in Colorado

Frontier just opened up service to our local airport and was offering crazy cheap fairs to Dungver so I jumped on them.

My 19 year old son and I are flying out in early August for 5 days.

Looking for ideas on what to do and see, especially in the mountains. Scenic train rides, etc.

Sorry for not being more helpful with personal advice. It's just that these threads come up at least a couple times a year, and I've run out of motivation to regurgitate the same info each time. If you've got specific questions, feel free to ask.

Oh no problem. No reason to re-hash stuff that's already been posted. I should have searched myself. Lot's of info in those threads I'm going to look at.

Thanks.

Oh, since you specifically mentioned trains, the Georgetown Railroad is worth an afternoon. The other popular one is way down in Durango, which is awesome, but is a long drive from Denver.

When I moved to Durango people would call me up and say 'hey I'm in Denver for a couple day's lets grab a beer'. Heh, it's 7 hours north in one direction through some of the windiest, steepest mountain roads you'll ever drive. Meet ya here at El Rancho!

To be honest, unless you want to mountain bike, hike, fly fish, ski or something along those lines Durango isn't the place to visit. The train is cool. You can drive from one end of town to the other in less than 5 minutes if you don't hit a red light. It's a place to get away from that stuff.

If you've ever been to Silverton it's a couple notches above that as far as organized social activity but not much. If you somehow do arrive here shoot me a PM and we'll get in touch. I'll show ya the town.

Should take about 15 minutes!

If we head that way I'll definitely give you a shout out. Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.

we rode the royal gorge train while we were out there last year. it was pretty cool, and extremely scenic. best way for us to see the gorge since it had been charred by a wild fire, and the park was closed.
