Playoff Time and I have no idea who to start at QB...

I was a 5 seed in the Playoffs, won my first matchup and now am going head to head with the 1 seed this week... Guy's team is a scoring machine so I can't afford a misstep and expect to get past him. My problem is this, In the initial draft I picked up Peyton Manning and did alright early in the year. Before Kolb got hurt I grabbed Vick from FA off a whim after I had an extra roster spot being wasted. Vick burned up the 2nd half of the season and has nearly single-handedly brought me from near the bottom of the league to the play-offs...

Now that Vick has bruised his finger and has a big game against the Giants, and Manning is pissed from underperformance and attempting to save his season vs Jacksonville... I just don't know who the f&#k to play... Manning is usually good for 15-25 per week, and Vick has been an easy 30+ weekly... Do you think Manning will, with his back against the wall, throw for 350 and 4 TD's? Do you think Vicks hurt hand will drop him down a peg or two as far as yards?

Do you think i'm and idiot?

That's fine if you do... But insight is appreciated too...

tough call. Vick was pressured against the giants but still threw for over three hundred. I can't rememb er tds right off the top of my head.

Manning might go off even in a loss. He killed me week one when he had four fifty seven IIRC.

Manning in a dome or Vick in what could be nasty weather????? Still unsure? Jason Campbell just went for 324 and 2 against Jacksonville.

Damn good decision to have to make, I don't think either of them will keep you from a big week at your QB position, but I'm going with Vick because of his running ability.

Hard for anyone to guess.

Last month despite leading the Eagles to a win, Vick had one TD, on a 3/4-yd run. Vick also fumbled twice and lost one or two balls. The Giants went more with a cover 6 -- and the extra man was covering their TE. It was very effective -- The Giants strategy was based on blitzing Vick from his left, forcing him to roll out to his right, which makes a Cover 6 defense very effective.

Quote:
NOV. 23 Giants / Eagles

Rather than having the three deep defensive backs split the field into thirds, one takes half of the field (in this case, the offensive left) and the other two each covers a quarter.

Therefore, by forcing Vick to his right with a blitz and leaving just one safety deep to his left, the Giants were able to split the field in half and provide good coverage in the secondary on the play side.

The Cover-6 also typically features man coverage on the best receiver on the field, which would be DeSean Jackson for the Eagles. It makes a lot of sense against Vick, who is difficult to sack and able to launch the ball deep down the field, making him a defensive coordinator’s nightmare.

The Giants mixed the Cover-3 and Cover-6 in with a lot of zero blitzes, leaving no safeties down field, keeping Vick guessing throughout the game.

“You put so much on out on the line when you bring that type of blitz and we had a plan for it,” Vick said. “We really didn’t think we would see it as much and it was good that we had an opportunity to get that a lot today because we had a chance to work on it and be ready for it next time out.”
The Giants defense are changing it up for game 2.

Giants tweaking defense for Round 2 with Vick

By TOM CANAVAN AP Sports Writer

Updated: 12/16/2010 04:14:11 PM PST

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.—There was an unexpected mystery around New York Giants headquarters just days before this weekend's NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles (9-4).

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell missed his weekly press conference with the media on Thursday. The Giants (9-4), of course, told the media not to worry. Fewell would be available on Friday.

That didn't stop the speculation. Was Fewell locked in a room drawing up some super-secret game plan to shut down Michael Vick and the Eagles on Sunday at New Meadowlands Stadium?

No one wanted to say.

Players believe Fewell will have something for them. Last month in Philadelphia, the defensive guru had a simple plan. Either keep Vick in the pocket or force him to roll to his right if he breaks containment. The goal was to make the left-hander throw across his body when he was on the move. For the most part, it worked. Vick was limited to 258 yards passing and no touchdowns.

In a season filled with great Vick moments, that game really didn't have one. The Eagles, in fact, scored just one touchdown in five trips to the red zone. But—thanks to LeSean McCoy's 50-yard, fourth-down, fourth-quarter run with less than five minutes to play—the Eagles still managed to escape with a win.

The difference between winning and losing might have been a fraction of an inch on McCoy's run. Vick bobbled the snap and Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora seemingly was a fingertip away from deflecting Vick's pitch.

"I was frustrated because I thought we should have won and we gave them the game," Umenyiora said Thursday. "Anytime you do that, I know how tough it is to win in this league and you don't want to give anyone the game, and that's what we did."

While many wonder what Fewell will come up with Sunday, players are expecting more of a tweak than a new gameplan. Why change something that worked?

"We have to do more," cornerback Terrell Thomas said. "We lost that game. We had the lead in the fourth quarter and lost it. We lost the fourth quarter. Our team is built around our defense and we take responsibility. We obviously had a lot of turnovers (five) and misfortunes, but we have to win that game for our offense and our team."

The Giants blitzed Vick plenty in the first game, but defensive lineman Justin Tuck said not all of the blitzes were called.

"There were a lot of secondary blitzes, a lot of things that are keyed blitzes," Tuck said. "It wasn't necessarily called blitzes. It might have looked like they were blitzes and that might be one of the reasons we had more success. We'll tweak some things here and there and solve this problem of a five-game losing streak against the Eagles."

Veteran safety Deon Grant says Fewell allows his defenders to think on the field and not be robots.

"I think that's good that Perry gives us that freedom," Grant said. "It keeps the offense off balance. They (the Eagles) can think we're going to go in this formation and they are definitely going to do this. But Perry says if they come in this, do that. He gives us the freedom to change things."

Linebacker Keith Bulluck said flushing a quarterback away from side of his throwing arm is not novel. The oddity with Vick is that he is a left-hander. So where the Giants would want either Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to scramble to their left, the goal is to make Vick go right.

Not easy.

"He is a mobile quarterback and you want him to be mobile away from his strength," Bulluck said, "away from where he can throw the ball 60 yards with a flick of his wrist."
DeSean Jackson, who has burned the Giants with big plays in recent years, was limited to five catches for 50 yards in Philadelphia. Jeremy Maclin had the big game instead, catching nine passes for 120 yards.

Cornerback Corey Webster said the defense did a good job of slowing Jackson at the line of scrimmage, allowing the line to get pressure on Vick.

"I'm very confident he'll come up with something," Webster said of Fewell. "We've been doing it all year and everyone is buying into the system. Nothing new this week. We'll go out and do the same thing."

Safety Antrel Rolle said the Eagles will tweak their offense as much as the Giants do with their defense.

"It's all about how bad do you want it," Rolle said. "That's what it boils down to."

While 23 isn't anything to be pissed at... I made the wrong choice... And judging by my opponents score, i'll be watching the championship game next week... I hated Peyton before because of the no punt game... Now I really hate him.

Yes but I'm betting prior to the 4th qtr you were glad you started Manning right? That's fantasy, if your QB puts up 20+ and you lose you have other issues on your team.

Fortunately we start 2 QBs so I didn't have to choose, but for most of the game I was wishing I had started kitna instead of vick.

By the time the 4th hit I was already resigned to the fact I would likely lose.. The guy I went up against had Witten scoring like TG and Gates had a love child.. And Flacco put up about 20 himself for my opponent. Ended up losing by 12 and some change, nobody to blame but myself though... I'll get em next year. /Cubs

Vick always has the higher upside and was, before yesterday, averaging more per game (7.5 in my league) than Peyton. Bad call both at the time and in hindsight.

Apropos of nothing, I'm 2.2 points from Forte away from the finals (where I'd face Vick). Foster picked an excellent time to tank. ARod needs to come back or I have no shot.

Facing Vick killed me (and benching Rice in favor of Foster/Hillis). In another league I've advanced only to face Vick again. YESSSSSSSS!

I get to face Vick in the championship next weekend.

And I will likely have to choose between either Aaron Rodgers coming off a concussion, or Matt Ryan coming off a 3 TD game.
