Herb Taylor will start next season. But where?

He played very well at LT in the preseason.

But he's only played "pretty good" since, and it's not hard to see why.

He's stepped in to play LT, RT, and RG at multiple points this season. We're asking Herb Taylor to back up our entire line.

Which tells me, of course, that the Chiefs really want this guy on the field. But where have you noticed him playing best?

I think he can excel at RT, but he didn't play too bad inside for the couple series he was in at RG yesterday.

Taylor has enough power to play guard even if he is not a road grader. What impressed me watching Taylor play guard yesterday was his foot work. He is able to secure good angles against the DT then release and disrupt the LB flow. This is the quality that separates the average guard from the NFL best. This is also a quality Jones does not posses, which is why I feel no matter how much experience he gets he will not develop into a quality guard.

Based on Taylors play against Oakland I think he could be an excellent guard or tackle. I say leave him at RG and solve that problem for the next decade. Then draft or hit FA for another OT.

Depth is a problem all over this team. But, don't you want your best players starting? To me Taylor is the teams 3rd best Olineman so he should be starting.

I agree that Taylor has too much talent to be wasting on the bench but with his body and height, he'd be perfect at center.

What, other than wishful thinking, makes you think that Taylor could play center? Did he play center at TCU and I've missed it?

I agree about McIntosh. He has such a hard time adjusting to right tackle you can't stick him anywhere else. He would make a ok back up at LT.

He's smart, talented and his body style suits the position of center.

He's better suited at center than right guard (due to his height).

The guy needs to be on the field.

While I appreciate your optimism that a guy can just learn a completely new position, it's highly unlikely that:

a) The Chiefs would even consider it.

b) That if they did, he'd be successful.



If the kid is as limited physically as some of you claim he is, I'm starting to wonder why the **** we even bothered to draft the kid.

Can't play RT, can't play RG.

Yet we drafted him to do just that, play RT. And he's riding pine behind a goddamn turnstile.

So, who's right?

He was 6th round pick. It wasn't like he was chosen in the first or second round. And let's not pretend that athletic players like Herb Taylor can't be moved around the offensive line.

Brian Waters was a tight end and a center before moving to left guard. Niswanger's played every position along the offensive line.

Taylor's an athletic guy and the Chiefs SHOULD find a place for him to start. It's obvious that won't be a left tackle or left guard (in the near future). He's not ideally suited for right tackle.

What would you suggest?

As a fan, it seems ridiculous that he's riding pine behind McIntosh at RT, and is THIRD on the depth chart at RG behind Jones/Smith.

Which leads to the coaches perspective.

Do the coaches honestly think he's not good enough to start, and the fans are dead wrong - or are the coaches incompetent, and a kid with serious potential is not getting the work he deserves?

Situations like this one, as well as the Page/Pollard/Morgan situation, are just one of the many reasons I want to see an entirely new coaching staff in here, ASAP.

At this point, it is all but impossible to determine what we have based on who the coaches are, IMO.

Morgan's dealt with injuries this year so it's difficult to say whether or not he'd be an improvement at this point in time. With the ascension of the rookie cornerbacks (Leggett, Carr & Flowers), I'm holding off on judgment of David Gibbs because it appears that they are all improving from week to week.

That tells me three things:

1) Gibbs is an adequate coach.
2) The talent at cornerback is greater than at any time this decade.
3) Pollard and Page have plateaued.

Personally, I feel that the Chiefs haven't evaluated their offensive line talent properly. Niswanger showed great promise at right guard last year before injury. In an effort to get him on the field, they moved him to center. Herb Taylor is a much better left tackle than they anticipated. Good enough to have gone a different direction at pick 15? Hard to say. But he has enough talent to be starting at left tackle, left guard or center, IMO. He'd be a short term solution at right guard or right tackle, not long term.

Again, this is just my opinion of the line play, to which I pay very close attention.
