Random ChiefsPlanet Stats

There are all sorts of stats about the forum buried in the Admin CP. I'd love to make those available to everyone, but I haven't really found an add-on that does it well. But, I'm a stats geek, so I might bump this thread from time to time with useless tidbits that I find interesting.

And perhaps even more appropriate that the distinction was tainted by that ... taint.

According to this, 13.5% of ChiefsPlanet's visitors are from India.

That's because so many log on from work, and their IT Help Desks are tracking them down...

Alexa may have its uses out there, but it's extremely inaccurate. According to our Google Analytics stats, India made up a whopping 0.09% of our December visits. The U.S. makes up 94.27% of visits, followed by Canada (1.65%), the U.K. (0.70%), and Australia (0.39%).

Yeah, I figured it'd be pretty inaccurate. Just thought it I may as well post it though.

The numbers are in, and the final number of posts for the year is:

1,062,483

The entire year was pretty much identical to 2009 in terms of posts (which ended up at 1,049,203), so apparently having a new GM and coach results in lots of discussion. Here's the graph for those interested:

Other interesting tidbits:
  • 7 of our top 10 individual days by posts came in 2013, including a new highest day ever on October 20th (ignoring the post whoring contest of 2011)
  • The draft year was incredibly popular in terms of the number of users "tuning in". We had 1,672 people log in on April 25th, which is a new high for single-day user activity.
  • Similarly, our average for daily user activity was 1,022 this year, which is up about 12% from last year (our previous high).
  • Now here's an interesting one: our average number of threads posted per day was LOWER in 2013 than it has ever been. The numbers get a little shaky prior to the software upgrade in 2008, but that's still amazing to me. Basically what this tells me is that "mega threads" have become the new norm rather than lots of smaller threads on more specific topics.

So there you have it. It'll be fascinating to see how 2014 compares once the new car smell has worn off of Dorsey and Reid. Hopefully we can have a good season to see how that affects participation as well.

Congrats, Rain Main, on your prestigious role as the millionth poster of 2013. Though I wish the post were a little less depressing.

(Sigh.) I am honored to have the random distinction of making the 1,000,000th post, but wish it would have been a less sucky one. I didn't even have a poll in that thread.

That one's tougher due to limitations of the search function. However, using a bit of manual calculation, I came up with 344 poop threads in 2013 compared to 420 in 2012. So, believe it or not, there was less shit on the Planet this year than last.

I really don't like that trend. Not everyone follows those mega threads. I'm going to start more threads in 2014. I don't have any resolutions really, that sounds like a good one.
