****Official Draft Sheldon Richardson Thread****

I want Geno. If we aren't going to draft Geno, then I want the best available pass rushing interior player. Now, you might go "God ****ing dammit Sorter, you've gone full true fan on us wanting a DL!". Normally, I'd agree. However, the 3 tech is an absolutely vital position in today's NFL. Teams are being forced to run "sub" (which in the future, will become base) fronts due to the propensity to throw the ball and align in 3/4 wr sets. Additionally, the quality of TEs is encouraging more throws out of what looks like base personnel (2 TEs, etc). Having an interior rusher who consistently pushes the pocket on sub and more importantly base fronts is crucial. Personally, I'd rather have an interior rusher who struggles against the run but is explosive and active with his hand then most players. Interior players who can rush the passer are a very limited commodity. Quick, name them! Watt, Atkins, Tuck, Cox, Campbell, Jones, Suh. There are a few others you can throw in, ala Raji, but the number of effective interior pass rushers is significantly lower than the amount of OLBs/DEs.

We currently have absolutely nobody who can play the 3 tech effectively. I had very high hopes for Allen Bailey coming into last year, thinking that he'd be able to win 1-1s with RGs in subs and build on his production from his rookie year. He completely underwhelmed.

Out of the available prospects, Richardson is the only one I've seen that is consistently explosive, uses his hands, gets a great "pop", has pass rushing moves, and is athletic enough to align in the 0/1 (although he isn't a NT), 2/3/4/5/7 tech and provide a pass rush. There are some character concerns and his interviews don't help him in that regard. He also struggles against the run and has a propensity to play high (which he gets by with due to his hand fighting skills). The last part is fairly common for most rookies playing DL.

Again, I want Geno. However, having an interior player who gets upfield is a commodity every team wants but few truly have.

Here are a few videos.

Shit like this is infuriating.

This is probably the best thread I've read in months. And immediately CP shits on it for actually focusing on football.

I'm big on Sheldon Richardson for all of the reasons listed above.

I do have some concerns shared by Hamas, but ultimately you're at 1.1, so you've got to take the most talented guy that fits.

I still think Jordan, Joeckel, Fisher, and Geno are more talented. But Richardson is not far behind enough for me to get upset over selecting him.

Poe isn't there but the talent is. He wasn't bad in the nose next year and he has tremendous ability to play the five tech too. Will he develop into that? Yet tobe seen. It's why I never understood the hate for the Poe pick. If he develops as planned, he is exactly the kind of player you need to beat the no huddle.

To the point of the thread, this pick would be fine with me. DeVito is a nice to have, but he can be upgraded and depth is never a bad thing at that position.
Depending on your NT to be the primary penetrating gap-shooter is never a good idea. Just because Poe has the athletic ability and the potential to occasionally do it doesn't mean he should be THE guy. And even if it were, you still have DeVito and Jackson at the ends who can't get up field very well at all in passing situations.

For his rookie year I could see Richardson coming onto the field only situationally, but as he improves as an overall defensive linemen (including in his run-stopping ability) he would obviously outright replace Tyson Jackson.

If he can get to the passer or atleast push the pocket consistently then that'd be great.

I wouldn't hate the pick. I am also a Mizzou grad so I am biased. Sheldon wrecked a lot of offenses in college.

If we are going to pass on Geno Smith, I say **** it.... lets just draft Chance Warmack at #1 overall.

We will be the only stupid team ever to draft a guard at #1.... but at least all of our True fans will be happy.

I'd rather Chance Warmack at #1 than Luke Joeckel.

Much better comparison than Fat Chester. I think Sapp and Sheldon are very similar.

Sapp is a good comp although I hate comps like that.

I really don't care about getting gashed against the run as much as I did the last few years. We are going to score more points this be thrown against more. We need a rush from the front.

I'd take Richardson and pay Seymour an average deal

Richardson Poe Seymour Hali and Houston rushing the passer? Yes please

Except when he's taking entire games off like Syracuse.

Yeah, you're right, that part about disappearing was unfair.

However, I can't get past the fact there's always been a lot of self-created drama surrounding him, going back to recruiting right up to shanking his own team vs. Cuse. That kind of immaturity worries me.
