Took place in a lil interview where I kept getting distracted like that one part in Anchorman. Cauldron centric. Sorta funny.

It’s not a fond memory for Sporting Kansas City. The upside is that they won’t overlook the Montreal Impact this time around.

In their first meeting with the Impact on May 5 at Livestrong Sporting Park, SKC expected a walkover against an expansion team saving most of its starters for Canadian Championship play. Instead, Sporting were upset 2-0 – their first defeat by a MLS club in its inaugural season since a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Oct. 17, 2009.

“They took that game too lightly and they got what they deserved – what we deserved,” manager Peter Vermes said after Monday’s training session.

Headed into Wednesday’s rematch at Stade Saputo, Sporting are taking nothing for granted.

“We know that we have to go there with the right mentality,” goalkeeper and captain Jimmy Nielsen told MLSsoccer.com after Monday’s training session. “We have to put in a great effort. I’m pretty sure everybody will have that respect and will put in that effort.”

Wednesday’s game also gives Sporting a chance to take out some frustrations from Friday’s 1-0 home loss to Chicago – a game in which they outshot the visitors 27-10 but were denied time and again by Fire ’keeper Sean Johnson.

“It’s another quick game, a quick turnaround from Chicago,” center back Matt Besler said. “It’s a chance to put that game behind us – and obviously with Montreal, we definitely owe them one.”

The revenge and rebound angles are secondary for Vermes, though. Sporting have just one point out of their last three league matches and have lost two in a row, keeping them stuck in third place in the Eastern Conference without any more chances to pick up out-of-conference points against teams from the West.

“It’s always good to go back and get points from somebody who took some from you,” Vermes said, “but at the end of the day, we’ve just got to get after this game.”

And if Sporting can replicate their energy and shot output from the Fire match, midfielder Graham Zusi said, the points should come in Montreal.

“I thought we played extremely well against Chicago,” Zusi said. “We were, I thought, the better team by far throughout the match. We were unlucky a little bit, and their goalkeeper had a great game. If we put another performance like we did against Chicago together, I think we’re going to be rewarded.”

I think Robin van Persie is the final piece of the puzzle for SKC, you guys. Let's get him.

You heard he stated today that he's not re-signing with Arsenal, right? That's what prompted my joke.

Huge news.

Kansas City outbid Seattle for the right to host US Open Cup Final if they win. Seattle has been playing these games at home for years now.

They have to beat Philly on Wednesday. These guys are 180 mins from a trophy.

LIVESTRONG Sporting Park to host U.S. Open Cup Final if Sporting KC advances
Sporting KC plays Philadelphia Union on Wednesday in semifinals at PPL Park

http://www.sportingkc.com/news/2012/...ng-kc-advances

LIVESTRONG Sporting Park will host the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, U.S. Soccer announced on Friday, if Sporting Kansas City advances past the Philadelphia Union in next week’s semifinal round.

Sporting Kansas City takes on the Union at 6:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, July 11 at PPL Park in Philadelphia with a berth in the final at stake.

Should Sporting Kansas City reach the final, the match would be held on August 7 or 8 at state-of-the-art LIVESTRONG Sporting Park versus the winner of Wednesday’s second semifinal between Chivas USA and Seattle Sounders FC.

In the event LSP hosts the championship match, all current Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Members will have right of first refusal for their seat locations and will have access to an exclusive pre-sale, which will begin at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, July 12. Additional ticket information for the potential final at LSP will be released next week.

The United States Soccer Federation determined the possible hosts for the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on Friday as conducted through a sealed bid process. The four potential pairings, championship sites and match dates are as follows:

Seattle Sounders FC at Sporting KC; August 8 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park
Chivas USA at Sporting KC; August 7 or 8 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park
Philadelphia Union at Seattle Sounders FC; August 8 at CenturyLink Field
Chivas USA at Philadelphia Union; August 7 or 8 at PPL Park
Sporting Kansas City has reached the semifinal stage for the third time in club history with home victories over Orlando City SC (USL PRO), Colorado Rapids (MLS) and Dayton Dutch Lions (USL PRO) previously in the tournament.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports history with origins in 1914 and is named after Lamar Hunt, the original founder of Sporting Kansas City. The tournament celebrates its 99th annual edition in 2012 with the largest field in tournament history, consisting of 32 amateur teams and 32 professional clubs.

Sporting Kansas City won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2004, defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0 on a golden goal by striker Igor Simutenkov at Arrowhead Stadium.

Massive to get the Open Cup final if we're through. I'd love to see us win it again.

Going to be a scorcher today. I wouldn't mind seeing Saad get a start tonight to give someone up top a rest.

It seems like they are gonna give Jacbob Peterson another start which I am a big fan of. I just don't like this whole Kei, Teal, CJ thing. I don't think it works...pick 2.
