Next Seasons Record

Since we are most likely not going to do anything in free agency and just rely on the draft what do you think our record will be next year. Here is a list of next years opponents:

Home
Denver, Oakland, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Seattle, Jacksonville

Away
Denver, Oakland, San Diego, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Arizona,
St. Louis, Miami

I say we go 6-2 at home and 4-4 on the road for a grand total of 10-6 and get in the playoffs as a wild card team.

What do you think planeteers?

This season will be kinda weird IMO...

Offense:
Our passing game wont be as good as far as numbers go, being that were gonna run the ball 10+ times more a game. TRich is gone, and hopefully Priest will stay around one more season to help in passing situations, but I think LJ will be better this season in pass protection. I think if we get Keyshawn Johnson, then we can have someone thats another big target with good hands that can go across the middle. I think that can help us. Parker showed us last season that he can be good at times, more PT will only make him better. EK should have another productive season. Our running game/offensive line will obviously be the focal point of our offense. Losing TRich will hurt but I think that if Holcombe comes back healthy, I dont think we will lose much of a beat considering LJ is a one guy back, meaning most of the time he runs with singleback sets or with two TE formations. Dunn is a bigger part of the running game than TRich is IMO. Carl Peterson made the good move by letting him go. He wanted too much money as a fullback. I wish him luck in Minnesota. But people have to remember that this offense isn't getting any younger by any means. So if we are going to make any kind of playoff/SB run the defense has to get better.

Defense:
Well we dont have a defensive line, still. Eric Hicks is a fine run stuffer, but gets almost no penetration on passing downs. Ryan Sims was actually playing good in preseason and some of the first game until he got hurt. This is a contract year for him I believe and Carl needs to base his future strictly on his performance this season. If he stays healthy and plays well, we should keep him. If he can't stay healthy or still continues to play like shit, we need to cut his ass. Like coaches say you can't make the club in the tub. Lional Dalton is a UFA and I dont know what were gonna do with him yet. We are obviously gonna address the Dline through the draft. As far as CB's go I dont see us really getting Ty Law or Woodson simply because Carl was too cheap to land Seattle's DT Rocky Benard. We couldnt afford what, a 3 year deal worth 5 million? I cant remember, but it was something like that. I dont see how we are gonna pay Law or Woodson the money they want after being as cheap as Carl has been. More than likely either we will let a younger CB like Battle (bearing injury) step up or Hodge. Battle will continue to be our NCB more than likely. If we landed Kelly Jennings in the 2nd round I would be happy. Miami tends to produce good CB's. Everything on defense starts up front. The key to success on defense is to have good pressure from the front 4 or 7 players. I think everyone knows this. Obviously the strength of our defense is our LB core. Mitchell played well last season and will only get better this season. Hopefully we will utilize Bell and DJ more in blitzing packages. The way we disguise our blitzing formations makes me laugh. I mean why don't we just hold up a sign and tell people were gonna be bliting on this play? I dont know if having Bell as a rushing end is gonna be a good idea, but I'll judge it when I see. This defense still has a long ways to go before being a real threat to anyone. We need an efficient pass rush.

Special Teams:
Frank Gansz Jr. needed to go. Dante had a down season, which I am not too worried about. He's still the most dangerous KR in the NFL. We allow way too much yardage on kickoff coverage and we give up the occasional TD on punt coverages, which pisses me off more than anything besides giving up first downs on 3rd n long, or piss poor tackling. There were many many times where the Chiefs' opponents started at the 35 yard line. Realistically as bad as our defense is teams would only have to travel 35 yards before FG points are on the board. At some point our ST has to help the defense. Field positioning is HUGE in the NFL. We need to get better in that.

Reg Season Record:
Everyone knows that if you can play well at home and at least play .500 ball on the road, then more than likely youre gonna make the playoffs. Anyways, this is how I see it this season...

Home Games: BAL,CIN,JAX,SF,SEA,DEN,OAK,SD
Away Games: MIA,STL,ARZ,PIT,CLE,DEN,OAK,SD

Baltimore - Win - When healthy on defense, they can be dominant, but not against our Oline. Remember MNF 2 seasons ago? It will happen again and this game is at Arrowhead. Oh yeah and they dont have an offense either.

Cincinatti - Win - This will be a blowout if Carson Palmer isn't back healthy. If he is then it could be a close game. There defense last season wasnt as good as advertised. They just had a lot of TO's like we did in 2003.

Jacksonville - Win - If this was in Florida we would lose this game. We never play good down there. This should be a dogfight because I think JAX is an up and coming team. They made the playoffs last season. They have a good defense, not so good offense. Good thing McCleon isn't around anymore for Jimmy Smith to pick on all game. I think we'll pull it out though, but just because it's at home.

San Fransisco - Win - Still rebuilding, they lost their overall best player period in Julian Peterson. Were gonna blow this team out of the water IMO. Ill be pissed if we dont beat this team by 20pts.

Seattle - Lose - Could this perhaps be another victim of SB hangover ? I dunno what to think about this game. Either there is such a curse as the SB hangover. But this team has loaded up defensively and are gonna be better than they were last season IMO. I also dont realistically think that we are gonna be undefeated at home either.

Denver - Win/Lose - Still can't win at Arrowhead. Though they did put themselves in a good position to get two draft picks for future success. Too bad Carl Peterson can't ever do something like that. Too bad we play like shit in Denver. Maybe it was a DV thing I dont know but I dont see us winning up there this season.

Oakland - Win/Win - Art Shell??? No thank you. Blowout. Who's gonna be their QB? Tuiasososoosopo? We will win at Oakland as well.

San Diego - Win/Lose - Bolts fans are gonna miss Brees for a couple seasons. Gates and LT are still a threats, but we can stop LT and someone has to throw Gates the ball. For some reason we dont play too well in San Diego as of recent history goes. I say we lose the away game.

Miami - Win - We usually dont play well in Florida but I dont think Culpepper will be 100% by the time the season starts, regardless of what he says in the media. I wouldnt say anything negative either about my rehab if I wanted to get traded to a warm city like Miami either. After tearing nearly every ligament in your knee is not a good thing. They didnt play well the last time we played there and I dont know what would be any different. We even had the disadvantage last game.

Arizona - Win - THIS TEAM SUCKS!!! Edge clearly wanted the money, because I dont know of anyone who would want to leave a great SB contender for a team that might be the furtherst away from one. Have fun in the dry sun with all of that money Edge. But everyone is gonna kick your ass this season. Youre gonna find out that they Oline in Arizona is nowhere near as good as the one you had in Indy. BTW Warner is terrible under pressure. Hopefully we will have Dline pressure on the QB this game. If we do we will win by a million points. If not we will only win by 20.

St. Louis - Win - This is gonna be a blowout. This team is going down the drain. Im not saying anything else about it. Witherspoon and Glover doesn't scare me at all.

Pittsburgh - Lose - I just don't see us winning up in Pittsburgh. I don't know why. I think we'll be competitive but I dont see us winning up there.

Cleveland - Win - This is gonna be a blowout. Cleveland however is gonna be a good team in a couple seasons bearing injuries to important players. If they keep addressing to good FA along with having good drafts they'll be good in a couple seasons, but not this one. Hopefully Dwayne Rudd won't need to help is out this time.

OVERALL RECORD: 12-4
AFC West Champs

So, are we talkin' about next year or this year!

Either way 12-4 is the correct answer.

"What is 12-4?" would be the correct question, right Alex?

9-7

I just can't look at our current group of defenders and have any reason to think there will be enough improvement to get us through the games we have to win, or those games that are tight.

Maybe I'll have a different opion once FA and the draft concludes, but today - 9-7

Look at the schedule we have this season. We play the AFCNorth and the NFL Europe....oops I meant NFCWest at the very very worst if things dont fall our way we go 10-6.

I'm looking for a good year..

I believe strength of schedule and injuries are still the most important factors in a season win/loss record.

Until the full schedule comes out, we can't know for sure, but it does look as though we'll have a much easier time of it this year. Playing some of the tougher teams that have new QBs (Dolphins, Raiders, Chargers) earlier in the year would be a big help ~ before they have time to really gel with their receivers, pass blockers, etc.

It also looks certain that the Donks, Raiders, and Chargers will be weaker this year. I hate to count on this, but let's face it, this has been a tough division and it's hard for all the teams to maintian that high a level of play for a number of years ~ I just hope that we can.

Unlike some, I have faith in Carl & Co. to do the best things in FA and the draft (whatever the best thing is). It may not be flashy, and sometimes it may not be enough, but it will be moves to improve our team from where we now sit.

I just wish we had a formula for injuries. Maybe the injury bug is sufficiently gourged and fully sated on Chiefs blood from last year to leave us alone this time around. I certainly hope so.

I think anywhere from 10-6 to 12-4 looks possible right now. I don't really care as long as we make the playoffs.

Luz
just please don't let us go 13-3...
