****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Interestingly....no one is giving Mizzou a chance to be Auburn.

College Gameday is setting up here in Indianapolis for the Michigan State-Ohio State game. Already seeing some of the fans for both teams milling around downtown. Have my MU jacket on today and have been stopped by a couple of fans who have said they like seeing the Tigers having a good season but just don't see them getting by Auburn.

One OSU fan I ran into told me he would like to see the MU beat Auburn just to shut up everyone calling for Auburn leapfrog them if they beat MU. When I told him if we beat Auburn don't think we won't be saying the same thing he just kinda laughed.

I was reading some article on the CBS Sports site last night, basically written like the game had already been played and Auburn had won.

All I can say is, put it on the bulletin board.

Walters is going to be higher rated than Markel Smith then, yes?
I forgot that Rivals breaks their RBs into All-Purpose Backs and Running Backs. Walters is the #14 APB; Markel Smith is the #37 rated RB. Their Rivals Ratings are the same, but given the 20 pound difference in their builds, it definitely seems like Walters is more of the conventional Mizzou back, and he rates as a slightly better recruit than Hansbrough.

Walters and Ish Witter are both great fits for what Mizzou does. Small backs that can "hide" behind the OL on zone plays, make quick cuts, make some guys miss in the open field, etc.

Did anybody else realize there was a rumor going around that Pinkel would return to coach Washington? Why the **** would he leave a rising SEC power to coach Washington. Obviously he shot that down. I seriously find it hard that this rumor even got enough traction to end up on ESPN.

I saw a story earlier in the week (don't remember where) in which the author added him to list of his potential replacements just because he had once been on the staff. Wouldn't surprise me if that was the source of this rumor.

Because he coached there for 13 years under his mentor and his head coach when he was in college. He also interviewed there in 1999 before they hired Rick Neuheisel.

Ya he was on Don James staff for 10+ years. That's where it comes from.

He was also on Mike & Mike & when asked about it shot the rumors down & flat said he wasn't going anywhere.

Still can't believe we choked away the SC game...

But because we did, that will probably allow us to NOT choke on Saturday, and get our hopes up only to be crushed by some stupid vote.

I've been trying to think of a scenario where Pinkel leaves for UW.

Maybe he wins the NC this year, says "My work here is done," decides he wants to coach another 10 years (until he's 71) and believes he can turn UW into a national contender over that time, putting him on near-equal footing with James. He becomes beloved at two schools (or three, is he beloved at Toledo?).

How's that for a Hail Mary?

He already turned down the job last time it was open. Nothing has changed now except that he is in a better league with a better team and is closer to retirement.

Not only is he not taking the job, he's not going to leverage the offer for more money.

Oh, I agree, he's not going anywhere. But under my fantastic scenario, something does change: He wins a national championship. He then decides he's done what he came to do at Mizzou, giving him the freedom to chase his mentor's legacy. (He also has to decide that either a) he can turn around UW in the next 3-4 years, or b) he's ready to coach into his 70s.)

I think even if he won the NC he'd stay, but I'm trying to conjure up ANY scenario in which he leaves. And it has to get pretty far-fetched for that to happen. Perhaps aliens would show up, forcing Pinkel to re-assess his standing in the universe and he would conclude it just wouldn't work without giving UW a shot.
