Holmgen and Alexander

I dont hear many people talking about Holmgen much. Can we call him a genious now?? Hes about to appear in his 3rd Super Bowl and he did it without Brett Favre. Seattle is lucky they stuck with the guy. As for Alexander, it seems like he keeps getting better and better every year. If i remember correctly, he very nearly became a Chief because I think we had the next pick after Seattle in 2000. Props to Seattle for finally making it to a Super Bowl.

Holmgren is only the 5th coach in NFL history to take two different teams to the Superbowl. No one has ever won with both teams.

He's a good coach. That defense is playing lights out with rookies, no-names, and cast-offs. The offense is clearly for real, considering the way they dismantled two great defenses these last two weeks.

He did fine after the Seahawks quit letting him run the team.

I am more impressed with their defense. Lots of rookies and no franchise guys is usually not a recipe for success. Lofa is playing like a vet.

Which makes me all the more pissed that Gunther hasnt done more with our D. Im very surprised Herm kept him. My guess is, Herm makes Gun the scapegoat next year if its more of the same.

Their biggest "franchise" guy is Grant Wistrom, and the reason they paid him that kinda money was so he wouldn't come to KC. Then you consider the Steelers best defensive player is probably Polumalu, and the Chiefs had a big hand in that too... and all these years people say Carl can't help build a championship team.

haha..Like I mentioned earlier. You could also say Carl had a hand in Seattle picking Shaun Alexander too. They knew we coveted him back in 2000, but unfortunatly they had the pick before us so they took him. We settled for SlyMo.

They are about as close to a carbon copy team of Kansas City as you can get and, even though they played in a much weaker division and conference, they got it done this year with less talent on that defense then we had in KC so gotta give them their due.

Thats a good point. They are sort of similiar. A dominate run game. A solid, but unspectacular QB who gets the job done. Anoymonous WR's. If only the Chiefs played solid D....DAMNIT CARL!

There are similarities all over the place when you take a look at the strength of each team.

LT Walter Jones = Willie Roaf
LG Steve Hutchinson = Brian Waters
WR Darrell Jackson = Eddie Kennison
RB Sean Alexander= Larry Johnson
DE Grant Wistrom = Jared Allen
MLB Lofa Tatupu = Kawika Mitchell
FB Mack Strong = T-Rich
CB Marcus Trufant = Pat Surtain
QB Hasselbeck = Trent Green

If anything KC has more talent.

Please, Seattle has the weakest division and had the easiest frickin schedule this year. I was surprised what they did to Carolina but be honest here the Panthers were on their 4th string RB and Delhomme kept passing the ball 20 yards deep into cover 2. Moronic play calling by Carolina won that game for the Seahawks. Once the Panthers started throwing the dink ball over the middle they were making ground and then out of nowhere would throw the ball deep again. Holmgren didn't outcoach them they just beat themselves.

Actually the word at that time as I had been reading online was that Chiefs scouts were "mixed" on Alexander and didn't like his style of running as it didn't fit our philosophy (at the time Gunther was the HC obviously, so Joe Horn also didn't fit in with our philosophy). There was a debate as to whether or not we really wanted him.

Obviously the same thing happened a couple of years back with LJ. Carl went with his gut on that one, and thank goodness he was right...
