Mock (3/27/13)

Using this mock, more than anything, as an opportunity highlight some small program folks.

Assumptions:

1. Branden Albert is traded to the Dolphins for a 2nd and a 2014 midrounder. Essentially the Alex Smith deal.

2. The Chiefs are unable to trade down from 1.1.

On with the show:

1.1: OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan

I wouldn't consider Fisher out of the running just yet, but it's pretty close to being that way. One reason I'd consider Fisher is if I wasn't absolutely sure Joeckel would land at LT, because Joeckel, it seems, wouldn't adapt to RT as well should his LT play not pan out. Fisher seems like a brilliant RT prospect, should his LT efforts not work out -- although I believe they will. He is basically Joe Staley 2.0.

2.42: FS Jonathan Cyprien, Florida International

Cyprien falls! How the hell did that happen. Because this is America, dammit.

In all reality, Cyprien's going in the 1st round. He's just way too gifted, can play man very, very well. Has great instincts, fantastic size, can play both safety positions but is a natural free safety.

3.63: WR Quentin Patton, Louisiana Tech

Patton was always a pretty good prospect, but his Combine performance was very impressive. He was so fluid through the drills, with great speed to provide this offense a deep threat that can actually reel the ball in.

3.96: OG/C David Quessenberry, San Jose State

Solid depth for the interior of the line, plus he will lead to countless ChiefsPlanet threads attempting to turn his name into something even more amusing.

4.99: DE Joe Vellano, Maryland

This team needs a massive passrush push from the end positions, and they're not going to get that from Jackson or DeVito. Bailey could pan out, who knows, but Vellano is another option who might. Very productive passrusher at Maryland, with a couple passrushing manuvers he's pretty adept at.

5.134: QB Brad Sorensen, Utah State

Sorensen's a mystery to me, but people talk him up, so here we are.

A really talk, physically impressive QB. His numbers are a bit less impressive, and I have no idea what offensive scheme Utah State even runs, so there it is.

6.170: ILB A.J. Klein, Iowa State

I've mocked Klein to the Chiefs several times this offseaon. A fiery leader, sure tackler, and really tough player in the trenches.

6.204: OLB Quanterus Smith, Western Kentucky

Fits my holy trinity of arm length, speed, and college production. Smith was incredibly productive in college and could be a great developmental prospect behind Hali and Houston.

7.207: NT Montori Hughes, Tennessee-Martin

A really big body with some tremendous tape, but huge character red flags all over the place, including getting booted out of Tennessee's program.

Andy Reid doesn't get as hung on character concerns, so if the value is tremendous here, who knows.
