****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

He was 18-8. And if weren't for Pinkel's inability to recruit a backup, his W% would be better because he wouldn't have played several games with a foot ripped off and the TTech concussion game.

16-9 is his TD-INT

In one year. 40-18 is his TD-INT as a starter.

Franklin's first two years as a starter netted him 31-18 with a far better supporting cast.

16-9 was Gabbert's last season at Mizzou. It was very pedestrian and included some serious choke jobs.

After upsetting Oklahoma to rise to 6 in the country, he went 18-42 against Nebraska and 12-30 against Tech in consecutive weeks. The Tech game was an unmitigated disaster.

First drive: 3 plays...3 runs...80 yards...7-0 Mizzou

Second drive: 3 plays...1 run followed by 2 incomplete passes...punt

Third drive: 2 plays...2 runs...80 yards...TD...14-0 Mizzou.

Three drives into the game, we had thrown 2 passes for 0 yards and had 6 runs for 182 yards and 2 TDs. We lost. Final stats...30 passes for 95 yards...31 rushes for 260 yards.

I'm not here to shit on Gabbert, but saying that we would be better with him than we currently are is ridiculous. Blaine's down games were horrendous, and not rare enough to make that claim.

You obviously watched both of those games, so you're being not just a touch dishonest by ignoring the elephant in the room: he was concussed at the end of the Nebraska game, and you saw the ill effects the following week.

If you want to pillory him for the Nebraska game, I get it. Still, watching that game provides more perspective than the stat line. I've never seen college receivers more blanketed than Missouri's were in that game. Nebraska's CBs had them shrink-wrapped. No Missouri QB ever was winning that game with those players and that defense.

Furthermore, do a 1:1 comparison of the 2010 Missouri Offense Compared to 2007 or 2013. How many skill position players or linemen are you taking from that team? Is it more than one?

The problem with the debate over these QBs is that they have always ignored context. Taking that 2010 team to a 10-3 record is one of the most amazing accomplishments of Pinkel's tenure.

That season was smoke and mirrors. It took an act of God to beat San Diego State. We were down 24-20 with less than a minute left when Moe caught a 2 yard pass, watched two defenders collide, and took it 68 yards for the TD.

Prior to that gift, Gabbert was 27-50 with no TDs and 2 INTs.

Here is Gabbert's 4th quarter (20-14 Mizzou...Mizzou ball 3rd and 11 from our own 30)

Incomplete pass (0-1)...Mizzou punts

Drive 2...one play (RB fumble...not Blaine's fault)

Drive 3...Blaine gets sacked on first down
Incomplete pass on 3rd down (0-2)

TD makes it 21-20 SDSU

Drive 4...Blaine throws the ball 3 times. No completions.

Drive 5...Blaine throws seven passes completing 4 of them for 28 yards before throwing an INT.

SDSU FG makes it 24-20 SDSU

Drive 6...Gabbert throws 2 passes. One incomplete...one intercepted

Drive 7...Miracle to Moe

This is who Blaine Gabbert was. He made great plays, and he made disastrous plays. He was the antithesis of a game manager, and there is no way a guy like that guides us to an undefeated season in the SEC. For every game we won because of him, we lost one because of him.

He was a good QB...but he's easily below Smith, Daniel, Franklin, and Mauk.

I'd rather have any of the 4 over Gabbert (except maybe Franklin2012). The guy seemed shell shocked before the shells started falling.

And the 300 some odd yards before that and the two 90 yard TDs given up to Ronnie Hillman don't factor in to that equation?

He's always been held up to a ridiculous double standard. When Chase Daniel throws an inexcusable game ending interception against Okie State no one mentions it again. When Gabbert does the same thing against Iowa it's the worst play in the history of plays.

When Daniel loses to a mediocre-at-best KU team, everyone focuses on Eberflus. When Daniel loses to a really good Nebraska team, it's because he shit his pants.

Maty Mauk completes 52% of his passes with three NFL WRs and suddenly he's a better QB than Gabbert.

It's rank bullshit.

As for Mauk, he's not better than Gabbert...at least not definitively. He's also a freshman. If I had to take him next year versus Gabbert's junior year, I'd take Mauk.

It's rank bullshit.
How am I discrediting Gabbert by saying that he wouldn't be undefeated? I'm saying that nothing in his time at Mizzou gives me any reason to believe that he could put together an eleven game run without sprinkling in a couple of disasters.

Daniel never ran the table. Franklin never ran the table. Mauk will likely never run the table. It's incredibly rare, and it takes a special kind of QB who can carry a team at times but also never drags a team down. Gabbert could carry a team for a game, but he was far too prone to disasters.

And the Chase Daniel INT is the play that stands out to me more than any other he made, unfortunately. I never saw it coming. Gabbert's wasn't surprising in the least.

How did we get three NFL WRs when our recruiting is so horrible?
