George Brett of course. I think my second would be Steve Busby. The guy was just incredible. I think he has always been short changed on recognition.

Dan Quisenberry. Used to try to throw like he did when we played baseball (with varying degrees of success).
Number 2 is Brett (duh) and third is Frank White (who's nothing but class ... and should be in the Hall of Fame). MM ~~

Brett .... hands down.
I met Brett,Wilson and Jamie Quirk in 1983 @ Brookridge CC. They were at the par 5 # 2 hole and Brett just teed off about 250 - 270 yards. I was working as a maintence man on the course and was changing tees and washer fluid on the tee box. They were all cutting up about there shots, wise cracking and I looked at Brett and said, bet ya I can out drive that shot. He smarted off , real cocky like and I told him I had $ 5.00 to back it up. He told me maybe for $ 50.00. problem was I didn't have $ 50.00 to prove it to him. Best athlete as a Royal......... Bo Jackson.

As a player - no contest - George Brett
I have an autographed limited edition picture of his 3000th hit in my office. He epitomizes what baseball was all about, and was my idol growing up as a kid. As a person - Frank White Never met a more genuine, generous, down-to-earth guy than Frank. I met him several times in KC when he was a player and several times here in Wichita. Still the same great guy.

Frank White was my all time favorite. The had loads of talent, played forever, and was a good guy.
His daughter was in the same class as my brother so I would see him around our school occasionally. He would smile and say hi to anyone and everyone. We were both standing in the lobby one time and he commented to me what a nice day it was outside, I was too awestruck to say anything more than "yeah". |
