I talked with a scout today who said haters/other scouts are already backpedaling on Geno just because it's a cliche to do so.

So lame. Do your homework and stick to your guns, bums.

Meanwhile I haven't heard so much as a whisper that a team wants to trade for our #1
That's not true at all.

They even said before the draft that their whole front office was on board with the choice they made to not move up for RG3 and to get Trent Richardson.

Not true. They were originally mad that Washington didn't give them a 2nd chance to up the final offer.

Not sure what to make of all that talk. its not like the FO is going to say, "Alex is going to be our starter til. he isnt. Hes out stop gap guy and as soon as we draft and groom our QBOTF, this dudes outta here."

I dont listen to coach speak when it comes to that kind of crap. Alex has a 2 yr deal with us, grooming a QB for a year or so is very possible.

Teams don't typically give up the 34th pick in the draft plus an additional 2/3 rounder for a 1 year stop gap. Even the Raiders don't do that for a year.

PS: How's the knee?

Teams don't typically have the #1 overall pick, give up the 34th pick in the draft for a QB, and fill most, if not all, major roster holes in FA.

There's no precedent either way.

Not much precedent because smart teams draft a god-damn QB with the #1 pick and don't give up two seconds for an Alex Smith.

Maybe the new precedent is being set by the innovative guys in the league.

That top pick doesnt require you to give out a 70 million dollar contract with 50 guaranteed anymore. Not much downfall to letting a kid sit with the new structure.

Meanwhile, we go and get a guy that can hit the ground running and help get the team headed back to respectability.

Basically, the same thing that happened that lead to the 49ers ascension.

By doing that, you are cementing the foundation of a team that has a good chance to compete for championships in the near future.

It gives the true fans their kool aid and the die hards their hope for great things.

If they went ahead and hedged their bets, I could not in all honesty ever say another goddamned thing bad about them. I would experience the joy of FINALLY being able to sit back and "trust the process". You know, like fans of REAL franchises get to.
