We don't get pass rush from our LBs or Safeties because Romeo doesn't blitz enough. Berry and DJ are more than capable of blitzing effectively in a zone blitz. They just need a scheme to let them loose. On the D-line, modern 3-4's allow the D-line to stunt. Romeo has our guys reading and reacting the majority of the time, and playing a pure gap-control.

Scheme is going to fix a lot of our pass rush problems. If not, there's 2 guys (our DEs)... and it's possible we have 1 or 2 quality roster guys already, but they just need a scheme that will let them loose.

i find it hard to believe scheme is going to fix our pass rush

i do think that scheme + some new players at certain positions, will in fact, improve our pass rush tenfold.

It'll go a long way in helping. Definitely need 2 new DEs.

If the Jets would commit to part with Rex Ryan and draft a new QB if a new GM came in, they wouldn't be in this situation. Basically what is going to happen is some GM will come in having to inherit this mess and then hope he can make a move after next season with those two issues. The Jets have been a freaking circus as of late.

Chiefs do need one more pass rusher. But the notion you need 5 or 6 is ****ing laughable.

The Texans have 2 guys right now who could generate pressure and they get a ton of it.

Romeo isn't an attacking DC by any means.

I didn't say scheme fixes our pass rush. I'm saying scheme and soft coaching are a symptom of a lot of our problems. Of course the goal is to get better at a lot of positions. But right now, the mission critical guy is we're missing a 5-technique who can pass rush (Pitoutua already knows the Ryan 46). If we're running a Ryan 46, we probably need a Free Safety with a lot of range too. Two pretty easy fixes.

I think our system had as much to do with the fault in pass rush than anything. Sure it could be upgraded at certain positions (namely DE).

It's hard to know how bad our defense is. Statistically, only 3 teams gave up more yards per play -- that is horrifying, but how much of that was Crennel's schemes, and more importantly, his over the top lax, no accountability "coaching"?

i distinctly remember a game this season where Tyson Jackson got TWO COVERAGE sacks by pure lack and this place just laughing at him, not be cause he generated a pass rush to save his life, because our secondary and LBers had to go above and beyond a typical coverage to have a QB walk into a guy that can't generate any push whats so ever for like 8 seconds

that's not the scheme. that's just bad pass rush.

we not only need a starting ILBer but we need rotational pass rushers, whether they are OLBers or DEs.

REAL ONES. Not ****ing Andy Studebaker or Allen Bailey or Jerrell Powe or whatever turd gets a free pass around here.

So milkman's point was right. QB + pass rushers. Whether its a DE, LBer, NT, whatever. A player that generates a push is fine.

My bad about Mercilus and didn't realize Smith had that many sacks.

However, Smith is hardly a pass rusher and most of his sacks could be attributed to scheme.

Scheme absolutely will help a lot of these numbers if it's an attacking one-gap style.

Chiefs need one more impact rusher, but having 3 guys that can bring heat will do nothing but free up the down lineman to make plays.

Amazing how much better those sames scouts looked when they started providing information to a good leader who knew what to do with it. Scouts are only as good as the head personnel guys who know what to do with that information. It's very possible the scouts fed good scouting information to a incompetent boobs who had no concept of how to use that information.

I bet a lot of these scouts look a lot better when Dorsey gives them direction on who to scout, and makes better decisions based on information the scouts give him.

I' m assuming it's going to be the same scouts for this draft cause Dorsey won't have time to bring in all new ones now. But yes, new direction and leadership will help.
