Unions are such a good thing

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) - The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews from Huntsville Utilities learned they’ll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey.

Crews from Huntsville, as well as Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler out of Trinity headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can’t do any work there since they’re not union employees.

The crews that are in Roanoke, Virginia say they are just watching and waiting even though they originally received a call asking for help from Seaside Heights, New Jersey.

The crews were told to stand down. In fact, Moore said the crew from Trinity is already headed back home.

My wife is a teacher. Teacher unions are a blight on society.

If there were justice in the universe, any ambulances, firefighters, and police would take their time responding to 911 calls from your home.

I take it you have never had many dealings with them then?

Try calling to tell them your car was broken into or someone grafitti'd on your property.....or for a non-injury car accident, and try to get a police report of the other guy who was at fault.

Try calling them for any non-emergency service and see what happens....

Better yet go into one of their offices and just sit in a chair and watch the dead eyed people or try to ask a question....

There is so much fraud, waste, overtime, ridiculous pensions that it isn't even funny.

What you and I get is emergency service only, buddy...ANd we pay TIPPITY ****ing TOP dollar for it, and have every god damn right to complain about the waste and fraud.

But shit is slowly changing around the country. We simply can't afford to piss our money away and pay guys 60 bux an hour to wash fire trucks abd BBQ tri tips in the firehouse.

Can't believe this hasn't been debunked yet.

Quote:
Representatives with Huntsville Utilities and Joe Wheeler Cooperative, two area utilities mentioned in media reports claiming their crews were not allowed to help with storm aid in New Jersey because they were non-union, said this morning the story is untrue.

The general manager of the other department mentioned, Decatur Utilities, has since verified claims that his workers were asked to affiliate with a union.

See story here.

Bill Yell, spokesman for Huntsville Utilities, said nine of his employees are currently helping with recovery from Hurricane Sandy and had no union-related issues.

"That's a rumor," he said. "We are starting work this morning with Long Island Power Authority. We were headed to a New Jersey utility but they had all the crews they could handle."
