Am I wrong, or should we be rooting for Alex this year?

So, the Chiefs gave up their 27 this year in round one. And a hypothetically placed round one next year. Plus a third. In this one instance, we need Alex to excel as it lessens the burden on the front office for next years draft. Were the Chiefs to tank, then Buffalo could end up with the number 1 pick next year, and the first pick in the 3rd round. Whereas if the Chiefs win, Buffalo's new picks are late round or worst, 32 overall, and we bitch a little bit less about Mister Smith.

Win Win?

Spoiler!

You've obviously never enjoyed delicious BBQ before a playoff loss in the Camerohead parking lot.

Shouldn't a chiefs fan have always been rooting for Alex? He's your QB I've always wanted him to do well as that will translate to team success, I've just never thought he was good enough.

In the past we have had 2 GM's that were blinded by their decisions and left players in hoping they would turn out to be right. Fans were forced to hope players looked so bad that the GM was forced to replace them.

That isn't the case now with Dorsey and Co. For that reason we don't need Smith to be terrible. This draft showed that. I understand why some haven't gotten out of that mindset, but I really think they should.

Of course we should be rooting for Smith this year. He is the Chiefs quarterback. We want him to do well and leas our Chiefs back to the playoffs. It doesn't matter as far as Mahomes is concerned how well he dies, Mahomes is the future and Alex Smith's time here is about over. We gain nothing by Smith doing poorly. It's not like we have a better first round pick to look forward to if we lose a lot of games. If Mahomes isn't ready, then he's not playing this year regardless of how badly Smith plays. However, if Smith does well, it greatly improves the possibility of getting a draft pick for him in a trade. Only an imbecile like Clay would want him to do poorly.

I'm rooting for a meteorite to smash into and destroy much of Denver save Rain Man/family but destroys Broncos and John Elway car lots.

Doesn't seam like it's going to happen and that's disappoint.

No, that's not really how it goes. This team will be significantly different than it is now in 3 years. The guts of this team are all in the 28 years old range. Berry, Houston, Maclin, Kelce and Schwartz will all play this season at 28 or 29 years old. That's their prime. Obviously Hali, DJ and Smith are older still.

Sure, there are young guys behind them but when those guys are running the show, that's a new team. That's a new 'window'. The window on this team will close much faster than you think. They can't be pissing away a year because that's how you end up as the Bengals. "Well we didn't expect to be there this year. We didn't expect to be there this year. We thought we'd get there this year but hey, next year's our year. Oh shit...we might suck now...."

You cannot backslide in this league. Time is far too precious of a commodity.
And if you draft well, then it's a non issue (aka Packers, Steelers, and Patriots). I honestly believe we have the best GM in the entire league. I'm not worried at all about the future of this program as long as Dorsey is running the show.

As far as the topic at hand, I want Alex to have a career year and get us some trade value going into the offseason. It would be nice to get some of the compensation back that we gave for his tenure in KC.

I don't really care about any extra trade value that Smith may or may not bring by playing this year. Everyone knows what he is.

I hope we have competition at the QB spot for a change in OTA's and Training Camp.
