The Chiefs = The Redsox of Football?

I am sure I am not the first person to think this and may not be the first to post something on the subject. It just seems with soooo much talent over the years and soooo many close calls with our 3, 13-3 seasons flushed down the toilet that we are becoming the Red Sox of Football. Add to that the KC media and its fans that are constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop, anticipating something to go wrong and then pouncing on the opportunity to rant about it. I am telling you there are correlations between the teams.

Yes Carl leaves much to be desired and am not bashing anyone on this board, it’s just that as the time slips by I continue to long for a title while I am old enough to remember it and young enough to enjoy it. I was a few months old when we won the title so neither was possible.

As I sat and listened to the Jim Rome show after the Red Sox won their crown, to all of its fans calling and reminiscing about all the anecdotes, it made me think of all the times we as Chiefs fans were in similar situations and had loved ones longing for that chance to be called the best and yet passed before being able to do just that.

And yet we are offered another glimmer of something we can call hope from this mess of the current season as we showed what should have been all year with Priest and Blaylock securing our place in history with 8 rushing Td's. Naturally as cruel fate would have it that game is followed by the Colts a team that very few Chiefs fans way deep down have joy about facing. What can we call our Bambino? To what can we claim is our curse? Even the immortal Joe Montana perhaps our version of Curt Schilling couldn’t pull us of from our mire, however close he came. Alas here we are on the cusp of the real test to see if our team has one last shot at the playoffs. Win, and we may have turned a corner, lose and we were a flash in the pan last year, a lucky team with nothing more than a weak schedule.

And so it is with our beloved Chiefs, we live by the run and die by the run as evidenced last year in Denver. We don't like to be called frauds and yet we are frustrated that it is a sad fact that we are faced with the reality of looking like just that. I am frustrated beyond belief at what should have been and like so many are back again this week holding out hope that what has been this season is no more and that we will show them all that we are the mighty Chiefs not the puny Cheaps as so many has said.

Good luck Chief fans I may not be in KC any longer, but rest assured I am right there with you, each and every one of you.
