Toub's teaching skills to help special teams play
The Kansas City Chiefs signed a specialist to their staff Tuesday, announcing Dave Toub as special teams coordinator. Toub joins the Chiefs after spending nine seasons in the same role for the Chicago Bears, who profited from his teaching. During Toub’s Windy City stay, he helped produce eight special teams Pro Bowlers, including KR Devin Hester (2006, 2007 and 2010), KR Johnny Knox (2009), ST Brendon Ayanbadejo (2006-07), K Robbie Gould (2006) and ST Corey Graham (2011). To say Toub’s guys covered the field is an understatement. During his tenure, the Bears registered an NFL-high in kick return yards (punt and kickoff) with 17,031 and kick return TDs (22). He helped Devin Hester become the NFL’s all-time leader in kick return touchdowns (17) and compile the NFL’s fifth-best all-time punt return average mark (12.1 avg.). While coached by Toub, the Bears led the NFL in punt return yards (4,143), punt return TDs (15) and ranked third-best in punt return average (11.2). Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is excited to reunite with Toub, who he worked with in Philadelphia (2001-03), where Toub served as Reid’s assistant special teams/assistant defensive line coach. The duo also served together on staff at the University of Missouri (1989-91), where Toub was in charge of the defensive line and strength and conditioning duties (1989-2000), while Reid served as the Tigers offensive line coach (1989-91). “Dave is one of the league’s best special teams minds,” coach Reid said. “He will bring an innovative approach and consistency to this group. Dave will get the most out of our players and I’m very happy he is joining our staff.” http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/article...1-acc333379543 |

They had 37 return touchdowns in his 9 years? That's insane. That's 4 a year. How many do we have since Dante Hall left?

I like it. The Andy Reid hire has given this club a leverage over other teams to get good people to come here like our new GM and this guy.
