Options at Safety this offseason

Yeah, I'm still pissed off at Lewis. Like everyone else, I can't wait to see his sorry ass off this team. But looking forward, who can we replace him with?

Haha Clinton-Dix is the only real option in the draft, and he'll be gone by our pick.

Here are the FA Safeties

Nate Allen PHI
Yeremiah Bell ARI
Antoine Bethea IND
Jarius Byrd BUF
Ryan Clark PIT
Chris Crocker CIN
TJ Ward CLE
Michael Huff DEN
Malcolm Jenkins NO
Taylor Mays CIN
Brandon Merriweather WAS
Quinten Mikell CAR
Donte Whitner SF
Usama Young OAK

Anyone think we can snag one of those guys? Will we have the money?

Interesting.

Who's the number 1 rated safety? I'm assuming it's either Earl Thomas or McCourtey..?

I'd love for us to somehow land Byrd.

Your left nut. Probably the right one too.

I'd actually rather have Sherman though.

Yeah, so criminal that the NFL won't allow it, even if KC could conceivably acquire him. God forbid we make it tough on the almighty Peyton Manning.

I'd settle for a solid knowledge in Algebra...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Ah, ok. I figured it would be one of the two.

Earl Thomas is a shit ass open field tackler from what I've seen. If we had him, we'd be worlds better no doubt, but we'd still have a lot of the same issues with missed tackles.

McCourty's kind of a weird case; I feel like he kind of came out of nowhere. Was he initially drafted as a CB? Or am I thinking of someone else?

I guess that's what is sorta maddening about it is you should be able to find a decent CB that can transition over to FS and play lights out - but doesn't seem to be nearly the case.
