Does anyone know how much Cap Room

we have now that we have signed Cassel and a few free agents? I know we terminated a few players also. Just curious as I think there will be some good players released before the season starts and also we need to sign all our draft picks as well. I'm sure we are still in good shape but I know there is someone on the Planet that knows where we are with our cap????

According to Bob Gretz:

Quote:
The NFL salary cap ceiling for the 2009 season is $127 million. Teams must spend 87.6 percent of that, setting the salary floor at $111.252 million. When free agency started, the Chiefs had a ballpark figure of $50 million under the cap available to them, meaning $77 million was spoken for by players on the roster. That number jumped by $18 million with the additions of Cassel and Vrabel, so now the team is at $95 million. That leaves about $16 million for the Chiefs to reach the minimum and $32 million to reach the maximum.
I'm not sure how he includes Cassel though because I'm pretty sure we haven't signed him yet...

Cassel was tagged by NE. KC is responsible for that amount.

Not if we re-do a contract though (at least I think).

When we redo the contract for Cassel, the cap hit should decrease significantly from the 14.8MM?? to the new number. If his new cap number is 6MM we would have an additional 8.8MM in my scenario. I am not sure if I got the Franchise number correct, but it is pretty close.

That's about right. Rotoworld says $14.651 million. I'm not sure if there's any bonus's or anything though.

It depends how the contract is structured...

If they don't want to spend money on FA's they could simply sign Cassel to a deal that gives him huge money in the first 2 years, and or restructure a couple other contracts that way you get above the floor and actually open future money.

Correct. That was part of the hangup with NE trading him to someone else. Usually in these situations teams want to come to a new long term contract agreement with the player. KC was willing to take him at the tender amount.

I hope we front load our rookie contracts since we have so much space. The only thing I worry about is a Boldin-like attitude.... but who knows what will happen with the uncapped years ahead...

Cassell signed his franchise tender. Those rights were traded to the Chiefs. He is now signed for a one year contract with the Chiefs for the franchise number.

Yes, but he is no longer tagged. He is under contract for the tendered amount, having signed the franchise offer.

Given the Chiefs cap situation, they may take the unusual step of FRONT loading the contract.
