Word around the league is that Jon Gruden is in line to rejoin the Raiders

• Jon Gruden has been out of the NFL since his abrupt firing by the Buccaneers in 2008, when inside sources said the players turned against his hard coaching style. Known for his admiration of John Madden, many executives around the league believed Gruden was destined for a prime-time role in the broadcast booth and would seek to spend the rest of his career there, capitalizing on the naming rights involved with the video gaming world that reportedly have generated more than $100 million for Madden. While spending the past three seasons working for ESPN on Monday nights, Gruden also has not stopped spending extensive time grilling and getting to know the next batch of quarterbacks to come through the NFL in his annual "Gruden's QB Camp" series, logic would indicate, in preparation for the next coaching opportunity. The latest scuttlebutt in the league has Gruden, on the brink of turning age 50, in line to rejoin the Raiders' organization in a prominent role. The franchise’s downturn can be traced directly back to his departure a decade ago, he has a relationship with GM Reggie McKenzie from their time together in Green Bay and he has an even better understanding of the infrastructure in Oakland and the Al Davis brand of football than anyone in football. With more autonomy to run the organization how he sees fit, adapting a model that Davis taught him, Gruden is very well-positioned to resurrect a faitering franchise that went 0-for-November and has yet to win a game since owner Mark Davis put everyone on notice and said he was not pleased with the direction of the team.

Isn't Gruden's agent Bob Lamonte? The same guy who represents Walrus and Andy Reid? The same guy who has been pushing Walrus and Andy Reid's name out there for other coaching jobs recently? The same guy who probably was pushing Gruden's name for the Tennessee job recently just to make it appear like his client was really sought after?

I wouldn't put too much stock into it right now. Wouldn't be surprised either if former Raiders employees who were let go by McKenzie are pushing this...

Gruden seemed to be legitimately getting his mind blown by the zone read Carolina was running the other night on MNF.

What's that say about Dungy then? He had the talent but couldn't get them to the SB, Gruden walks in and one year (I think) boom and they are in the SB and win the whole damn thing.

What one thing Jon has is motivation. He made those guys, Saap and Lynch believe that they could win. He knows football. You can't listen to him for an hour talking just real x's and o's football and tell me he doesn't know his shit.

If you don't like him as a person fine, but the guy knows football.

So the Bucs were losers before Gruden arrived?

And if he knows so much about football, why did his teams become progressively worse each season until he was fired?

Gruden is a really, really interesting candidate. I'm not saying a good candidate. But an interesting one.

He ran West Coast as a coach. Yet has spent a ton of time studying up on Chip Kelly's offense. What will his new offense look like?

He ran Tampa 2 as a coach. But Tampa 2 has changed a ton even when Monte Kiffin was with Tampa. How much will Gruden rely on Cover 2?

In a lot of ways, it's hard to predict what kind of coach he will be the second time around.

Dungy WON a Super Bowl later on with the Colts, so I'm not really sure what your point is.

Only one with Manning at QB sounds like a horrible waste.
