Chad Johnson gets 30 days in jail for probation violation

Not since Vincent LaGuardia Gambini found himself repeatedly in contempt has the lack of courtroom decorum had such dire consequences.

According to Local10.com, former NFL receiver Chad Johnson appeared in court today in connection with allegations that he violated probation by failing to keep in touch with his probation officer. Though prosecutors initially wanted Johnson to be jailed for the infraction, a plea deal was reached.

Under the terms of the agreement, Johnson’s probation would have been extended to December 21, and he would have performed 25 hours of community service.

“You better thank your lawyer. He did a great job for you,” Broward Circuit Court Judge Kathleen McHugh told Johnson after accepting the agreement.

Johnson responded by slapping attorney Adam Swickle on the butt. Which prompted the judge to call the whole thing off.

She believed Johnson wasn’t taking the situation seriously, so she rejected the plea deal and sentenced him to 30 days in jail.

Johnson pleaded no contest last year to battery of his wife, who has since divorced him. He was cut by the Dolphins in the aftermath of the arrest.

The good news is that he’ll be free in time for training camp. The bad news is that there isn’t, and won’t be, a training camp to attend.

CJ was already on thin ice.

He's already demonstrated that he doesn't respect the court because he didn't see his probation officer for 3 months.

He's already been given more of a rope than a normal person would get.

Most people would already be in jail because of that.

When he showed up for court he wasn't dressed right either.

Have you ever been in court or on probation?

Your freedom is riding on the whims of the judge / prosecutor you don't do anything that could jeopardize that.

the plea deals are discuss between the lawyers and the DA ... then they are sent to the Judge for approval.

she approved it and then vetoed it because her period hit.

As Americans, we are incredibly cavalier in our reactions to people being thrown in jail.

Forcing Americans to live in prisons should be a last resort to punish those who present a danger to society. It shouldn't be used to teach grown men lessons in courtroom decorum.

She didn't throw him in jail for smacking his attorney on the ass.

If the dumbass would have been to see his PO like he was instructed to the last 3 months he wouldn't be in this position anyway.

I'd lay 100.00 that he doesn't complete his probation without incident.

You want a real education to your local criminal court during docket reading at 0900 and see what goes on.

People on cell phones when they're not supposed to, people in shorts, flip flops, people with their pants down to their ankles, and people just acting stupid.

If you go to court you better act like it's important.

There are people there with handcuffs and guns and the holding cell is 25 feet away at all times.
