The thing that they pointed out on the radio is he shouldn't have said anything no matter what. He doesn't know for sure what they were cheering. He jumped the gun and made an emotional reaction because his team is 1-4 playing like shit. Even if you hear some cheers for Cassel being injured you never make a statement like that because you can't pinpoint a group of people or even one person out of 70,000. You just keep your mouth shut and let your vagina heal by playing better football so you won't be so sensitive the next time around.

If this was my franchise, there would be a press conference called. In this press conference the following would occur:


1. Eric Winston would stand along side me

2. We would play a video of the injury along with crowd reaction

3. Eric Winston would state that his perception was clouded by emotion and apologize for what he said

4. I would tell the media to get their facts straight before running a fanbase into the ground

5. State "I am 100% behind the best fanbase in the NFL, the KC Chief's fans. Thank you for your support. Like family, we are going to work through this hard time."

I think in a few days when the dust settles and everyone calms down, no one will fault Winston for sticking up for his own quarterback.

However, I think you guys are missing a larger point – this really helps us. It gets this story out into the national media, and based on our past reputation as the best fans in the country, even usual knee-jerk reaction guys like Mike Wilbon are shaking their heads and saying "what's going on here?"

This is all good for us. I hate to say it, but we should probably think Winston. Without Winston's rant, Whitlock's epic rant doesn't happen and doesn't get read by millions - including most of the national media.
