A moral question about minimum wage

Suppose the minimum wage is increased to $15 dollars an hour. No jobs are lost, but the higher wage entices more desirable workers into the workforce. Stay at home mom's whose infants and toddlers have grown to school age kids, who wouldn't re-enter the workforce for $7.25, are now applying for jobs that pay $15. Some employers are favoring these older, experienced workers over young inexperienced people just entering the work force.

When does it become immoral to price someone out of the labor market?

You pay the mechanic a lot of money because he's one of a few people who has the skills to repair your car. He's earned it.

Why would you pay someone 15 to flip burgers if you can find someone to do it at 8?

Yep! In other words, it's based on supply and demand. That determines value.

I agree with you on this. The reason GM went bankrupt is because they could not sell their cars at a price above their production cost that the market would bear. Consumers ultimately determine value, you are 100% correct about that.

Where you go wrong....where your thinking is completely inconsistent is your belief that somehow the state is better at determining the value of labor instead of the consumers of labor. The consumers of labor are of course employers.

The reverse ask is what human being that can't find a minimum wage job(like 75% of released felons) deserve to be in the work force?

I think it is immoral to use the law, intentionally(like it was done to black work gangs) or unintentionally by the misguided, to price any human being out of the labor market.
