Planetside is a REALLY addictive first person shooter..... on PC only right now MAYBE coming to SOny Playstaion eventually...

The battles are massive.....hundreds of people on the same battlefield. Combined arms, infantry, tanks, air, transport/supply vehicles.

Check this game out...lots of roles , not just grunt/infantry....You can really play engineers or medic or troop transport etc...squad leader.....pilot....gunner...bomber.....etc etc....

If you play on server "connery" as the NC (new conglomerate) I would be glad to squad up with you and show you a little of what I know. Its kind of a steep learning curve.....but it is REALLY fun once you learn to move around and find the "front lines" of the war and get into a squad....

2) make a character on server Connery , New conglomerate (blue team)

3) check it out a little bit , go to the "VR" virtual reality center and try out all weapons and vehicles

4) try 'instant action' and try joining a few different squads

5) post any questions or PM me if you wanna **** around and kill some shit

*If you hate the NC for some reason, I do have characters in the other factions (vanu & Terran) so I can hook up with you in those as well, theyre just not as advanced...I prefer NC but can play any of them as long as its Connery server.

1) How to find a good battle (planetside is a big BIG world)

What to do to find a good battle

1) find where the biggest battle is of the 3 continents (using the [m]ap button]

You can press (M)ap and look at the three different continents...or go to the warp gate (press escape, then re-deploy to the spawn at the warp gate) and use one of the computer terminals with a Globe on it.
The warp gate is a safe area so no one will shoot you while youre looking around..etc...

What I do is click on the sectors of the map and look for the place with 48+allies and 48+enemies (so you should be guaranteed at least 100 dudes in the fight)...you can spot the fights on the map by the explosions

You then can scan for the color of your empire (blue for NC) and see where the edges of our territory are...and look where blue touches red or purple....That is the front lines, and there should be SOME combat there. Its just a matter of finding where the best fight is.

If you want to want to press forward, you may want to try and find a fight where the population is higher for your side.....otherwise you might end up on a defense...even a hopeless defense...but it can be fun still!

You can also open the squad menu (press M then click the little squad symbol) just to see where all the open public squads are. Just because there are 3-4 open squads on a certain continent doesnt mean thats the best battle...but it can still be fun to roll with some pick up squads.

2) find a open pick up squad just to screw around, which is on the same continent as the big battle, near the good battle (using the squad icon on the [m]ap screen)

Once you join the squad/platoon take another look at the map, find which continent they are on, and see if they are all together on the map....if they are all spread out in different cities...then most likely they are dumb. If most are all bunched together on the map in the same area then thats who you wanna roll with.

3) IF POSSIBLE use the "squad deploy" button on the (m)ap screen, to launch a drop pod to launch myself in an assault drop pod near the sqwuad I chose

3A) find another way to get to that squad * (theres lots of ways to get there, mainly using the map screen..or if you are a pilot, you can spawn an aircraft and fly there etc..set a personal waypoint...etc...)

4) once I am near the squad I try to determine what the situation is...if we are pushing forward or getting our shit pushed in.

5)if we are on offense my preference is to spawn a heavy tank, and roll out...(if available , depending on how many resource points I have and if the cooldown timer is up or not)

5A) if I cant spawn a heavy tank, I spawn a light tank usually or a MAX armor suit
5b) If I cant spawn a light tank or MAX armor suitI try to spawn a troop transport and drive friendly troops into the action

5c) If I cant do the above, (because I have no resources or my timers arent up) then I spawn an infantry unit, which costs no resources and has no timer.....you can spawn any of these for 'free' :

medic, engineer, infiltrator(sniper), light or heavy assault troop

Once I am spawning infantry units I just play infantry/support roles until one of my timers is up and spawn another tank or MAX etc.,...

Now of course if you are on defense its different...also if you like to fly aircraft then of course youd want to do that until you use all your resources or timers etc...

Dont worry too much about the details right now, just mainly focus on the big picture:

find the big fight

get in there!

learn your surroundings, figure out which way is toward the battle and which is away.....so you can take cover and know where to run

use the [v] key to call out for medic and ammo and repairs as needed! People see it on their map, and will run to you to help

use the [q] key when you spot an enemy to call them out and it places them on the radar for all your buddies to see

go to the VR after playing a wbit to check out all the weapon systems in detail without the chaos of combat around you!

Damn it, I reset my router half way through the download thinking it would resume from where it left off when I restarted it, but it's downloading it from the beginning.

I just keep watching videos and it looks fun.

I would suggest going to VR and spawning out vehicles and different weapon systems to practice on for a LITTLE bit until you get good at driving something, using the mini map....killing some targets from a distance with a rifle, throwing a grenade.......using F1 and F2 F3to switch positions in a vehicle etc...

(you get to vr by pressing escape, press re-deploy,spawning at the warp gate, and going to a terminal with a globe over it....log into the terminal with the E key and then click the VR icon)

I am totally down to go with u into the VR training room, we could squad up and voice chat if it isnt too geeky for you...i could explain a couple of the basic things any time

You can probably figure most shit out but like some weapons dont hurt vehicles, some do ...so its good to make load outs for different situations...

Like if you make an engineer load out, use him to drive your tank with so u can flee, hide, and repair your own tank etc...

I am goin to a BBQ about 3:30 pacific time until maybe 8:00PM but if u get some time before or after that tonight I can help you out iif you want

edit: Z is squad chat, numpad 4 transmits to people very near you, numpad 1 is platoon.....theres more ways to transmit as well

make sure to go to audio options, and test/tweak your mic....turn "ducking" WAY the **** up or you wont be able to hear SHIT if bombs/munitions are dropping near by (except the sounds of death!)

Alt-F will turn on the FPS display

I would recommend turning down your graphics settings, like flora and stuff to as low as you need or off until you get 30-40 FPS at least...

But your computer is probably better than mine

oh and if you can play in Ultra with 40 or more FPS i REALLY ****ing hate you right now

In case you missed it all of this plus:

[enter] opens the text chat in case you have audio problems

then if you just type something it 'says' it to whoever is near by you (very near)
/s blah blah will send 'blah blah' to your squad if you are in one
/p will send /blah blah to the whole platoon if you are in one
/t NAME **** off sends '**** off' to that douche bags name

My PC was a mid to mid-high range when I built it in 2011, so it's not very good.

the graphics arent the most important thign anyway unless you can get over 30-40 fps, the more the merrier up to 60

I play on low / medium and get 40 because I would rather not lag and want to be able to aim

but like

I am pretty sure if you had a medium/high range computer even a couple years old you will be fine...

this game on Low graphics is more fun than any other game on high graphics to me so **** it.
