Jake Long was once considered in many circles to be the best left tackle in football. His stock has fallen off dramatically due to myriad injuries and declining performance, and he’s slated to hit a deep free-agent market for offensive tackles this March.

Long’s monetary expectations remain high. Citing people who have spoken to the Dolphins’ front office, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports Long is believed to be seeking “at least $10 million a year” and the Fins are “pessimistic” about their chances of retaining him.

Jackson adds that Long “scoffed” at the Dolphins’ in-season extension offer.

Long turns 28 in May and there are indications his body is breaking down, so we can’t fault him for pursuing every last dollar on his first ever opportunity to test free agency. With the way things have gone for him recently, this could conceivably be Long’s final substantial pay day the NFL.

He’s just probably not going to get it from the Dolphins.

He got 5/$57 when he was drafted, so he is not really asking for a pay raise.

Besides, you can ask for whatever you want, but the market will only bear what it will bear. It's always a value for the cap dollar equation

Off topic a bit... My first radio DJ name was supposed to be Jake Long(now that I look at it I wasn't that creative) then I decided "Woody Long" would be nice but the station said they couldn't have a 15 yo kid on air with that name... +1 post count...got a lot of time to make up for.

No, if you're going to be a moron at least get the facts straight while doing so.

I said IF Albert wants more money than he is worth and we can't sign him, then we shouldn't draft a LT but should look at Jake Long since he IS an upgrade IF he is healthy (which is a huge if). Jake Long has (until this year with all the injuries) consistently been thought of as a top 5 LT by pretty much everyone in football.

And I have never said Albert is MAYBE a top 15 LT, I said he is definitely top 15 but NOT top 8. He simply isn't. No amount of kool aid will change that fact. That isn;t to say that he couldn't be, as Milkman has stated, Albert still has some upside while a guy like Long has topped out. I think he's right on that.

And to be clear on this, I'd RATHER we just sign Albert to a reasonable contract. Which is what I think will happen.

Now that I think about it, Bowe didn't even make that much. Long needs to or GTFO. He probably hates Miami anyway since they aren't going anywhere.

You guys do realize that the franchise tag for a LT is going to be around $15.5 million, right? IF Long is healthy, $10 million isn't that big of a reach at all.

From all I have seen and read I believe it will happen. With Longs injuries this year, I see him sitting next to daddy in 5 years.
