Holliday gets big payday
Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday, a former Chief, signed a four-year, $20 million contract to stay with the Miami Dolphins. The deal includes a signing bonus of nearly $7 million.

Holliday, according to new coach Cam Cameron, was the Dolphins’ highest priority to retain. He started all 16 games for the Dolphins last year and had 66 tackles, including seven sacks. That tied for third among interior defensive linemen.

The Dolphins ranked fourth in the NFL in yards allowed.

•Quarterback Peyton Manning agreed to restructure his contract with the Colts to save the team nearly $8 million in salary cap space. He was scheduled to receive a $10 million roster bonus, but he allowed the Colts to convert the money into a regular signing bonus that the team can pro-rate over the remaining four years of his deal.

Manning signed a $98 million contract in March 2004, the season after he shared the league’s MVP award with Steve McNair.

•Brian Billick, the Baltimore Ravens coach, received a new contract worth about $5 million per season. The team previously had extended Billick’s contract. He is signed through 2010.

Lets see Vonnie and Big Turd get big deals and the Chiefs have had a black hole at DT for years. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Good for him. He had one bad year but other than that he's been a good consistent player his whole career.

Fujita is playing pretty well, too. You wonder how much of our defensive struggles were two dud DCs rather than lack of talent. The offense was the opposite: we'd take cast-offs and they'd become productive for us.

I'm surprised Holliday got so much money for the caliber player he is. I'm glad it's the Dolphins putting up the cash for him and not us.
