Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Do you?

Alex Smith throws the ball down the field less than anyone save Ponder.

He also takes more sacks than anyone.

Those are FACTS, Raisin.

2 years go 75% of CP would have swallowed a load of Alex Smith's jizz to trade him for Cassel.

Now because he is the reason we aren't drafting Geno and boom...he is Cassel.

No, people make the Cassel comparison because Smith's career stats are parallel to his, and Alex is yet another QB not good enough to start for someone else, yet good enough for the Chiefs.

Ok, thanks for the insight.

I missed where we traded for CAssel after he had started for years and was on in incline.

And 3 years ago everyone was laughing about how poorly Alex and his "superior team" played against the lowly Chiefs.

All I'm saying is that it's taken Albert four years to acclimate to the NFL. His first two years were downright horrible, his third year mediocre and his fourth good. (And I'm not saying great as I still don't like his footwork and his blocking ability at the second level, but he's turned into a pretty decent tackle and should be even better with a QB that has even a fraction of a percent of pocket presence as Cassel had jack squat.)

I don't think Joeckel has the athletic ability to be a left tackle in the NFL and Fisher is raw as shit. Don Stephenson at least has a pretty high upside (pretty good feet and excellent athletic ability for a guy that big) and has put in reps at the NFL level.

I think if you are drafting either Fisher or Joeckel they are 80/20 right tackles only at the next level. And they aren't even guaranteed to beat out guys like Stephenson and Allen, who were both highly regarded pro prospects. (Joeckel is very much like Allen in terms of playing style.)

But as soon as Smith has a winning record and leads to the Chiefs to a less than embarrassing season, they will.

And no offense, 99% of the people here are ****ing sheep and always have been.

I think the accusations of "Geno love" are completely overblown. For example, I could not care less about him at this point, but I'm truly sick of polishing recycled trash.

I would disagree on the percentage here, but our fanbase is certainly full of sheep.

2010 had tons of people convinced the Pioli regime was headed somewhere.
