Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

if they trade the 1st overall pick at best they get the other teams 1st and their 2nd rounder + whatever in the future, which is not better than the pick they gave up for Smith

so no, impossible to recoup that compensation value wise.
What if you guys have a QB in mind that you can draft later in the second? And if they do trade with teams, you would think they wouldn't move to amazingly far back.

What if you guys don't even want the first pick? Why not move back a little and get not quite your 2nd back but close enough? Suddenly it's not such a huge sacrifice.

We're in purgatory again. Bowe is actually irrelevant. We'll be a mediocre-bad team without him and a mediocre team with him.

This team is going to be good enough to get held back by the QB position, so it doesn't matter. It's all over.

Arrowhead will fill back up with True Fans and things will continue with nary a hitch.

Well he is no Matt Barkley, the best qb in the draft . But they don't want the growing pains with a rookie, they want to go right back to 8-8.

Even if they thought he was the worst QB prospect ever, no one was holding a gun to Reid's head telling him to trade two valuable picks for Alex Smith.

If he hated his QB options he could have just punted to 2014 and went to war with a game manager this year. Instead, he traded two valuable picks (with an extension soon to follow) and he'll go to war with a game manager this year.

After the Foles stuff fell through I really feel the Chiefs went to option B

which was this awful scenario with Alex Smith. I accepted this way before most of my fellow Chiefs fans on here still holding onto hope for a first round QB, but I have been advocating a 2nd or 3rd round pick on the EJ Manuel project if we are going with some crappy ass veteran for a couple years.

So I am sticking with the EJ Manuel train if they absolutely refuse to take a QB in the first

They aren't the only ones. I've never seen a college player so overrated as Geno is around here. He's not on the same level as Andrew Luck or even close. If he is drafted and given a chance to sit on the bench for a season or two, he could end up being a pretty good NFL quarterback, but he's not a guy you draft and then hope he's an instant starter and a franchise savior. He's certainly not #1 pick material.

Here's something nobody is talking about...

we still have FOUR picks in the top 100 overall and basically THREE 3rd round picks (original 3rd, comp for Carr and first pick in 4th).

The 3rd round is going to be a quality round to get a WR, CB and a developmental QB.

I still think we are at a good spot right now. If we get a 5th for Cassel, we can use that pick to move up in the 2nd for a guy as well.

They did it because Reid actually believes in Alex Smith.

It's no different than Pioli's belief in Matt Cassel.

And it's worse, because Reid has never actually been AROUND Alex Smith. He's only watched him.

For all we know Alex Smith will come here and start calling out 49ers terminology three years into the shitfest.

I have a very BAD feeling about this because Alex is going to be asked to do MORE here than he was in San Francisco. We don't have a #2 defense, and we don't have Harbaugh wunderkind and we have a coach who loves to pass.

Andy Reid could very well end up looking like his last 4 years in Philadelphia were not a fluke.

I really really hope this is true.
If there's any saving grace, it's that the market for the #1 pick will be very good. I just hope it's a team desperate for a Left Tackle. Maybe that means they trade down and still grab Geno, or maybe that means they think they can get a QB like Manuel or Barkley with a trade-down pick.

I'm not crazy about the Alex Smith shit either. Just trying to see some kind of a bright side. Knowing Dorsey and Reid's history, they do draft QBs very often, so I'd be shocked if we didn't walk out of the draft with a young QB prospect. I'll wait to see it play out.
