Oleman,
So if Bush doesn't sell out and become a total socialist then some of the Demorats fronting as Republicans will sell out all those who elected them. BIG DEAL. I used to be impressed with McCain but the more I learn about this guy, the more I realize what a punk he really is. BIG DADDY Says screw them if they sell out. It will only come back to bite them in the arse. McCain wants to run for president as a Demorat next time around anyways. I figured he would switch sides.

Just like with the Chiefs, when they're on the team you love 'em, but the moment they leave they were never worth a crap, anyway.

McCain is on nobody's side but his own. He works for no agenda but his own. Whichever party ends up with him had better watch their back.

I have never seen McCain as a Republican. Therefore, a switch would be no suprise to me.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- "I am sorry to see Senator Jeffords, an independent, principled Senator, leave the Party. Despite occasional policy differences between us, I have long respected Jim Jeffords' integrity, and his conscientious service to his constituents and to the nation. He placed what he perceived as the national interest before partisan or personal interests, and though we may disagree over whether his positions on one or another policy question were the right course for our government or the country to take, he held those positions honorably and bravely. I wish him well and I look forward to continuing to work with him on issues important to our country.
"Although we have lost our majority in the Senate, I do believe Senator Jeffords' departure can have a positive impact on how our party responds to members who occasionally dissent from party orthodoxy. For his votes of conscience, he was unfairly targeted for abuse, usually anonymously, by short-sighted party operatives from their comfortable perches in K Street offices, and by some Republican members of Congress and their staff. Perhaps those self-appointed enforcers of party loyalty will learn to respect honorable differences among us, learn to disagree without resorting to personal threats, and recognize that we are a party large enough to accommodate something short of strict unanimity on the issues of the day. Tolerance of dissent is the hallmark of a mature party, and it is well past time for the Republican Party to grow up."
Two paragraphs. Not too difficult to see which was written with honey and which was written with vinegar. |

The only reason any of this bothers me is that I feel that in effect, these Reps have "signed a contract" with their constituants for the term and the party they were in during the election.
I don't care if they change parties for Re-election, but think its pretty crappy to "change teams" at halftime. |

OK, I'm curious. Who are you quoting? And you sound like you are quoting two different people. These two paragraphs seem to go together.

Sorry - that is an official statement on McCain's website.
And my point was, although they may "seem to go together" to two couldn't be more idfferent in tone. Note the adjectives he uses to describe the turncoat, then see the adjectives he uses to describe "his" party. Last edited by Baby Lee; 05-24-2001 at 02:20 PM.. |

Bush will not roll over, he saw what happened to "41" with the "read my....... taxes" debacle. He knows that the people want leadership and dignity which is why he will stay his course. As far as McCain is concerned, he is out for his own agenda -- it's much better for him to be the lone voice in the wilderness rather than a member of the choir.
