I put up a post about this in fatchatter.com's davey crocket wannabees section. I've made several from ccsaws, files, and a leaf spring. Don't have much time to type out here, but you can check it out over there.

It's not hard to make them. What's hard is hiding them from the guards.

If you've got leaf springs, use them to make a crossbow. That's way cooler. I had a crossbow made out of a leaf spring when I was a kid, and it was a weapon of the ages.

I once carved a club out of a baseball bat.
I'm really not very good at crafts.

oK, so i rounded up all my tools(my god i have alot of stuff), tracked down my grinder, welding table, vise, both anvils. Got my shop tables built, new lights, and shitasstons of junk sifted through and hauled off.
Dug through the steel pile found a 3-3/12 foot radial saw blade and acouple 1/2 in by 4ft leaf springs. Im gonna finish settin everything up in the next couple days and get started. The real shit part is that im gonna have to pull my foundry back out and it weighs the better part of a ton. booo. ill post pics as i go. Tv is stoopid. edit- needs; files to start with & c-clamps. advice?
