It's time we ban pitbulls

Enough is enough. These dogs are way too strong & unpredictable. Plus, they are normally owned by the wrong people. Deadly combo right there.

This latest pitbull attack is absolutely heartbreaking.

A 14-month-old Wisconsin boy has died after a brutal attack by a pair of pit bulls, authorities said on Thursday.
Police received a call from Susan Iwicki, 30, on Wednesday saying that she and the young boy were being attacked by the dogs, according to local NBC affiliate WMTV. Iwicki told police that she and the boy had each sustained injuries.

The boy died of his injuries at a Milwaukee area hospital later on Wednesday, the Walworth County sheriff’s office said, according to The Associated Press.
The boy had the “biggest eyes, great smile,” family friend Valerie Brylow told local affiliate WTMJ. “He was a great little boy.”
“He is adorable, absolutely adorable,” Nicole Jennison, another family friend told the station.
The boy’s name has not been released, and an investigation continues. Both of the pit bulls were removed from the property and euthanized on Wednesday, WMTV reported.
The fatal dog attack was the first in Wisconsin in a decade, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

no idea how I would train a deaf dog, but I'm sure there's a way. though it was odd - I knew she was deaf and yet I was still whistling and doing other things to get her attention. Dumbass. lol.

I was living with my X. She had a pit-bull that would KILL any dog on sight.
She was at work. I was at home.
Dog got out & killed a another lil dog out for a walk with it's owner.
I got sued END OF STORY!

Quite a bit. Breed misidentification from the media and the natural bias of pit bull bites being reported while ignoring other breeds is a huge problem.

Omaha, NE - On Saturday, the adoptive mother of an 8-year-old Omaha boy whose genitalia were torn off in a 2001 pit bull attack said she thinks the dogs are dangerous and should be banned from the city. "We just don't know what makes those dogs tick." She added that, "all dogs need love, but for some reason, that breed just can't get it right."

Her adopted son, Bodi, was attacked when he was 18-months old. Back then he was named Shane. He was sleeping when the pit bull attacked him. The dog, Gator, belonged to his mother's boyfriend. It had been abused. Both the mother and the boyfriend were sentenced to time in jail for the attack, and the boy was placed in a foster home before she adopted him.

She says that Bodi today is a sweet-natured kid who dearly loves his pet golden retriever, Boo. He sometimes fears other dogs, though. She said the attack's psychological aftermath, in part, forced him to repeat kindergarten. "He was totally traumatized," she said. "It's affected him emotionally. We had to keep him back because his speech wasn't there."

Bodi, who will start second grade this fall, has a long road ahead of him. After he turns 12 or so, Bodi will have to begin receiving testosterone shots, a regimen that will continue for the rest of his life. He also faces many reconstructive surgeries, and he won't be able to father children. She worries about mean-spirited school kids, but believes he will overcome any challenge.

A 4-year-old Prairie City girl who loved animals and had a passion for the outdoors died Tuesday from injuries she sustained when she was mauled by her baby sitter’s dog.

Jordyn Arndt was attacked at about 2 p.m. Monday by an American Staffordshire Terrier named Brutus at a house at 300 S. Marshall St. in Prairie City, police said. Jordyn was was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

The girl died at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday with her family by her side.

“She fought so hard,” the girl’s mother, Jessica Arndt, told the Des Moines Register. “She is loved and will be missed.”

Jena Marie Wright, 24, of Prairie City was baby sitting Jordyn and her brother when the incident occurred. Wright was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with child endangerment causing, a class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. She was also charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, a class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $1,000 to $10,000. She is being held in the Jasper County Jail.

Thirty-one fatal dog attacks occurred in the U.S. in 2011, the most recent year data is available, according to DogsBite.org. Pit bulls, which make up less than 5 percent of the U.S. dog population, accounted for 71 percent of the attacks, according to the web site.

The American Kennel Club describes American Staffordshire Terriers, as “courageous and strong.” The breed is “loyal to his family and will protect them from any threat,” according to the AKC’s website.
The breed is believed to have originated as a mix of a long-legged English bulldog and a terrier. Over the years, it has also been called a pit dog and a pittbull terrier, according to the AKC.

The most recent death of a child in Iowa involving dog attacks was in March 2011 in Hopkinton. Vanessa Husmann, 3, was attacked in her back yard by two Rottweilers who had gotten out of their kennel.

Prairie City Police Chief Louis Modlin on Monday gave a letter to the owners of the dog — Harmon Wesley Wright III and Jena Wright —telling them it was considered dangerous and that it could not be harbored within the city limits. The dog is in quarantine at a veterinary clinic in Newton, Modlin said.

He declined to comment whether authorities have had previous complaints about the animal or its owners, citing an ongoing criminal investigation.

He did say that city officials would review their animal control policies in the coming days.

The Iowa Department of Human Services could also review the incident, an official said.

DHS performs a child abuse assessment in cases where children receive injuries that appear to be preventable, according to DHS spokesman Roger Munns.

When a child’s injury is caused by an animal, the assessment determines whether there was a failure to provide proper supervision, Munns said. The findings are not considered criminal and the results are not public unless the child dies. In egregious cases, child endangerment charges could be filed, he said.

Munns said DHS investigates a “very small” number cases involving dog bites.
The house where the attack occurred is in the shadow of Prairie City’s towering grain elevator, where worn houses stand next to well maintained ones. The home where the mauling occurred was one of the former.

On Tuesday, two dirt-splattered vehicles sat in front of it — a Jeep 4x4 at the curb, and a Fisher-Price tricycle in the front lawn. Also in the yard was an orange and black stroller that laid on its side and a coiled up dog leash. The metal fenced-in back yard was strewn with children’s toys.

Angela Clark, operates day-care in her home, across the street from where the incident took place. She says the attack has shaken her and patrons of her business.

She said she saw the dog outside only occasionally and felt it was properly cared for but says the incident calls for tighter restrictions on the types of dogs allowed within city limits.

“With that breed of dog, red flags would be raised for me around children, in the neighborhood that we live in,” she said.

Pit bulls are over bred and over owned. As a pit bull owner, I tell dumbshits to put their pits down all the time (had a good friend get evicted from a house because his dog bit the landlord. told that guy for over a year to put the dog down because he was a fear biter). I've gotten into some heated situations with assholes who sell them on the side of the road too. The people who say "Oh my dog never showed signs" are usually full of shit. These dogs don't just snap out of the blue. Most of the owners in these situations don't recognize the warning signs and are usually just shitty dog owners in general.

edit: that line about pits being 5% of the dog population is bull shit. Going to figure out where they came up with that.

And I would say it's probably off by more than 20%. Their pit bulls are 5% of the pet population is completely made up. No citations and no organization keeps track of how many of each breed there are in the US.
