You've got the When down, although coming earlier wouldn't hurt. The whole camp is open to the public.
Best place to stay, if you're cheap, is the campground. If you're not so cheap the Super 8 is literally 2 minutes from the practice fields. Free breakfast (4-5 diff. kinds of cereal, toast, english muffins, coffee, juice, milk, donut holes). I don't know where the campground is. The Super 8 is right next door to Perkins and Burger King. Best restaurant is probably Perkins, although the Copper Kettle is supposed to be good. I wasn't that impressed, but I didn't order anything special. Coach's is like "the" bar. And really, the town sucks, dude. The only thing worth seeing is football and college girls. One thing Herm did last year was end a bunch of practices early. I really quite enjoy his style. There's no way I would attend a Dick Vermeil training camp. Not in a million years.

Actually the local co-ed softball games are quite entertaining as well, each player in the field is allowed to have a can of beer with them and the ump even calls a timeout every so often for a beer break.

How far is this from Apple River? I'll probably be really pissed if its close because I was there two years ago during training camp and wanted to go, but my cousins parents(the people i was with) didn't know where or how far away it was, and they aren't Chiefs fans anyways. I still had fun on the river though

As far as when to go, you're estimation is right on the money.
I would go for the Vikes scrimmage and stay for Family Fun Night. I might recommend staying at the Fairfield or Holiday Inn Express in Hudson. It's only about a 10 minute drive into River Falls, but also puts you close to downtown Hudson which has lots of restaurants and bars and a scenic water walk. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I think I've heard a few times Hudson is a good bet, but I'd probably like to party down a bit and drinking and driving is not my strong suit.
Super 8 sounds alright. Thanks again! |

http://www.uwrf.edu/chiefs/ [kermit the frog]yay[/kermit the frog] CHIEFS OPEN 18TH TRAINING CAMP AT UWRF; FIRST PRACTICE IS JULY 25 By Caleb Stevens UWRF Public Affairs The Kansas City Chiefs will conduct its 18th summer training camp at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in July and August with plenty of new faces on the field and several special events for fans. “I’m excited about the direction we’ve taken,” said Head Coach Herm Edwards in an interview on the Chiefs’ Web site. “I think it’s the right direction for this organization. I really do. You want to do the right thing. I think we’re all on board to do this. The players are too. The players understand that if you’re a young player you’ve got to play. It’s not one of those deals where you’re going to watch. You’ve got to play and you’ve got to play at a winning level.” After trading 2007 NFL sack leader defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings for a first round and two third-round picks this year and a sixth-round pick in 2008, the Chiefs will rebuild this year’s team with young talent. Among that young talent acquired in the draft is Louisiana State University star defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, whom the Chiefs selected with the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft. The Chiefs used the first-round pick acquired from the Vikings in the Allen trade to strengthen the offensive line by drafting Virginia standout offensive guard Branden Albert. “I think both of our picks, obviously, can come in and compete and help us right away,” said Edwards in an interview on the Chiefs’ Web site. Along with the draft picks, star running back Larry Johnson and All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez once again return. Newly hired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey brings 34 years of coaching expertise to the Chiefs offense. This is Gailey’s first year with the Chiefs after being in the NFL for 15 seasons. Gailey spent the last six years with Georgia Tech and brings with him former Georgia Tech offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris as the newly hired Chiefs offensive line coach. The Chiefs are set to arrive on the UWRF campus on Thursday, July 24. The first practice is set for the next day. Friday’s practice will consist of a walk through from 10 to 11 a.m., and an afternoon practice from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Two-a-day practices start Saturday, July 26, but the first practice with pads will be on Monday, July 28. Morning practice times are 9 to 10:45 a.m., and afternoon practices are set for 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Fans will be able to get their first opportunity to see this year’s team up-close as they prepare for the season. The annual Punt, Pass & Kick competition will be held on Saturday, July 26 at noon at the Athletic Complex and Ramer Field. For more information and to register online, go to www.uwrf.edu/chiefs/ppk.htm. There will be two age groups for girls: 8-10 and 11-13, and six age groups for boys: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Everyone will receive a ribbon, and the top three finishers in each age category will receive a trophy. There will be two Kids’ Days at this year’s camp: Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, Aug. 12. There will be games and a raffle for Chiefs’ merchandise, along with discount concessions. Admission is free and to register for Kids’ Days call 715-425-3771. Seniors’ Day is Tuesday Aug. 5. Admission is free and participants will receive a gift pack including a Camp Journal and other items. To register for Seniors’ Day call 715-425-3771. The Minnesota Vikings will travel to River Falls to practice with the Chiefs on Thursday, July 31. Practice will start at 6:30 p.m. Admission for adults is $10, kids ages 12-17 is $5 and children under 12 are free. Parking will also be $5 per car. Food and beverages will be for sale at Ramer Field. Family Fun Night is set for Saturday, Aug. 2. Gates to Ramer field will open at 4 p.m., and the Chiefs will sign autographs from 6:30 until 6:50 p.m. Practice will begin at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be for sale at Ramer Field. Before the autograph session KCC President and General Manager Carl Peterson and Head Coach Edwards will both address the crowd. Jumpers from the Indianhead Sport and Parachute Club will perform before the autograph session, and a Rolf Halverson fireworks display will cap the evening’s entertainment. Fans will also be able to participate in the Chiefs Experience, a free event in which fans can test their football skills. Family Fun Night is sponsored by Viking Coca Cola of River Falls. On Thursday Aug. 7 the Chiefs will travel to Soldier Field in Chicago to take on the Bears in their first pre-season game of the year. The Chiefs will break camp the following week at UWRF on Friday, Aug. 15. Fans can call 1-800-4KCC-KCC to get current information about practices and special events, and check out www.uwrf.edu/chiefs for up-to-date information. To read about the Chiefs’ autograph policy go to http://www.uwrf.edu/chiefs/autograph.htm. |

Hudson is more happening for the bar scene, has better hotels, and just ten minutes straight down the highway. You will be up close to the players at practice and see them around town some in River Falls. Other than that, I think you will end up preferring Hudson----I sure did.

I am going up for the same practices that you mentioned. The scrimmage and family fun night are a little more fan friendly. Regular practices are cool, also, though.
I would definitely say stay in Hudson, also. We stay there every year. As mentioned earlier, downtown Hudson has MUCH better restaurants than River Falls. Practices are fairly short and you will probably end up with much more free time than you are anticipating. If you are there for a few days, you will definitely end up looking for things to do. Stillwater, MN is another pretty cool little town that is worth checking out. It is 9 miles from Hudson. There are some shops and good restaurants there, also. It sits on the Minnesota side of the St Croix River. |

Anyone ever venture over to Stillwater? Always drove through on our way to Apple River, and always liked it's charm. This year though, went through for the first time at night. There were carriage rides, and as we crossed the drawbridge, we notice a gondola in the water. Thought I might use this as a chance to romance. Anyone with any experience in the town?
