Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I easily fit into mediums.

That was my thought as well. I wear mediums for the most part.

Those brands usually run small. A L in one of those is like a M in most clothes.

I wear L tshirts. I have a hard time with long sleeve shirts. If they fit me in the arms and shoulders, they are usually way too huge in the waist. I usually have to have my dress shirts tailored. It is a pain in the ass.

Depending on what I'm doing anywhere from xxl to large. I've floated between 245 and 195 the last 2 years

They make shirts for guys that are athletic. They're wider through the chest and shoulders and taper more in the midsection.

Yea the arms and chest are the reason I wear large even though I'm short. Most of my shirts are pretty tight on these areas but if I go any bigger then the shirt is way too long for my torso. I'll sometimes need XL shirts when I'm up near 200lbs. Good thing cotton doesn't rip.

Yay!!! Just checked my workouts for the week, and this is a week of 5 rep sets!!! I'm excited, because that means I get to work on lifting really heavy (to me) things instead of the lower weight/high rep endurance. This makes me giddy.

Thanks man. My point was just that I think you may change your approach a bit as you get to be my age. I used to be a big massive guy with a nice gut to match. I filled out a shirt nicely,but now at 35 I think I enjoy seeing some of that muscle hidden under that bf that I carried at 240ish. You may not, but I know I have and I know it seems to be a fairly common thing with a lot of people that are lifetime lifters. I think I saw Tooge mention he kind of shifted gears a bit about 35 as well as focus more on leaning out.

Oh I've already felt the shift as I've taken the past few months to lose about 20lbs for Hawaii. I feel better and look better. Too bad my strength has gone in the shit. I've promised my wife I wouldn't touch the "good stuff" until after we have kids. I know that can help keep the strength and lean you out as you get older. I like being leaner but the strength loss that comes with it is mentally brutal for squats/deads.
