Chiefs' offense: "one of the worst in the league, by nearly every measure"

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/9...chiefs-offense

some numbers to chew on from arrowhead pride

Quote:
The Chiefs are actually 12th in the league in PPG, at 23.7. But if you take away the 14 points the defense is directly responsible for, that number drops to 19 PPG, which would be tied for 23rd - with the Raiders. The Chiefs are relying on the defense to score points, which isn't good. Defensive scoring is random and shouldn't be part of the game plan. They didn't need Tamba Hali's pick-6 to beat the Jaguars, but they did need Eric Berry's against the Eagles.

They also are just not moving the ball; their 333 yds/gm is 21st in the league and their 4.9 yds/play ranks 25th. "Well Kyle," you may ask, " if the Chiefs offense is so bad, how are they undefeated this year?" That's an excellent question, thank you for asking. The answer is that the defense and special teams are much, much better than we thought.
Quote:
The problem the Chiefs are having is getting to the Red Zone in the first place. They're 30th in yards per drive, with only Tampa Bay and Jacksonville behind them, and Cleveland directly in front of them (not good company to be in). This is a really, really bad offense. But here's the real kicker: the Chiefs' offense has the best starting field position in the NFL this year, and still can't score.
Quote:
The Chiefs average 17 yards per drive better field position than their opponents (ok, ok, 16.95), the best mark in the NFL (2nd table). Only two other teams average more than 10 yards better starting field position than their opponents (New England and Chicago). The Chiefs' average starting line of scrimmage (LOS) is their own 36.97 yard line (best in the NFL), while their opponents average starting LOS is their own 20.02 yard line (also best in the NFL). What all of that means is the Chiefs's offense is handed consistently great starting field position and can't do anything with it, then they let the special teams pin opponents deep in their own territory. The defense bails out the offense by not letting opponents move the ball, giving the offense the ball back with great starting field position. Lather, rinse, repeat.
There's a nice breakdown of our defense against philly over there as well:
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/9/2...p-kelly-eagles

Quote:
I have to reiterate and emphasize just how much the Chiefs played man to man -- like a ton of it. And they have the secondary to handle it, unlike most teams in the NFL. Specifically, they matched up Sean Smith on Cooper a lot on the outside. If this had been a prize fight, Cooper's corner would have thrown in the towel somewhere around the middle of the second quarter. Smith owned him right up until the end of the game when he started cramping up. Cooper just couldn't shake him, especially on those aforementioned deep routes Kelly had him running all game.

You waste everybody's time by posting your diatribes against Alex Smith criticism. And it's not like you just pop your head in occasionally like the Patriot fans did. You're here every goddamn day defending your boyfriend. Also, it's posters like you that attract all the other Niner fans who are glad Alex Smith is gone.

I don't want the last word. I want you to ****ing leave and stop making this forum smell like Niner troll shit. Alex Smith doesn't need your help. He's got plenty of Chiefs fans that support him pretty strongly and recognize him as an asset. Including me.

So please. ****ing. Leave.

I know it makes you guys feel good, but that is about it.
You don't think getting negative national attention on the Chiefs had an impact? Really? How many meetings did Clark take with fans before Save Our Chiefs?
How many owners jump and go catch the best Coach at the airport?
It was Nationwide attention and one of the most successful campaigns in decades. We have a brand new team and attitude top to bottom.

I don't have a problem with saying that the OL sucks right now, or that our offense needs to improve. I just have a problem with armchair coaches that throw temper tantrums when the real coaches don't do what they want.

I have Chiefs-related opinions on far more than just Smith, and people are welcomed to like them or hate them.. just like everyone else's opinions. You don't get to decide who is worthy of being here. I like this team.. I like what they are building.. so no.. not going anywhere.

Ignore feature. Use it, or kindly and skip past my posts. Those are your options... deal with it. Stop being such a twat, and you may just find that I am not such a bad guy.

Last season was one of the worst seasons for a team in the history of the NFL. I don't believe Clark Hunt needed an airplane towing a banner to know that he needed to make changes. A lot of you have let that whole thing go to your heads.

He didn't need a banner to fire Peterson and go after what at the time was widely considered the best choice for a GM.

Obviously Clark did or FN pioli would still be here and we would still have Cashole and be 0-3. I think it was a big slap upside the head in how bad he ran his dad's team in the ground.

Other teams didn't have the fan support of SOC and they still suck.

As I said, Clark Hunt didn't need a banner to fire Carl Peterson and go after what was then widely considered to be the best choice for GM. You don't give him enough credit - and give yourself too much.

Yeah, I know, and I don't care about yours. I just wish you would stop pretending you are nice to people and don't insult people that disagree with you - then say things like this. You are a phony, my friend.

Please explain this to me: You say there's no point in "CP [discussing] what needs to be done". So why are you even in this thread? Why did you click on it in the first place? Obviously there's nothing in here that you're going to find worthwhile.

It looks like you've come into here to criticize people, and not to criticize them for what they think, but to criticize them simply for thinking anything at all. You're not trying to to offer any opinions or insight about the topic or the team or about anything related to anything at all. You're just complaining that the people participating in this discussion are having this discussion.

Why? What's the point?

As far as me being "nice", well, I'm not. I've never pretended to be. I can certainly be an asshole, and I can certainly sling some smack. But in general I just try to treat people the way I expect to be treated. I certainly haven't said anything to anyone in this thread that would bother me if said back to me. Including not caring about what your views are on the rest of us having this discussion.

I think it's pretty silly, to be honest. Do you just look for threads with people discussing stuff that you think is pointless, just so you have something to bitch about?
