So I just saw an apartment balcony collapse
My friend's 2nd story balcony just collapsed at his apartment. He is having a b-day party. It's maybe 12x6 ft balcony and kind of old apartment. I think a dozen people + a mini fridge were out there. Maybe we're not the smartest people, but it's Texas. One person had to go to the hospital, but nothing major other than cuts, scrapes, and sprains. Police, fire department, and EMT just cleared out.
So my friend isn't liable for anything, correct? This is on the complex? Nothing in the lease is specific about a weight limit. Thanks Cp |

I'm sure having a dozen people on a balcony that size and if it's older is a hazard.

I would think this will fall entirely on the complex provided it's not a condo that your buddy owns outright. If he's renting, the complex should carry the liability, and they're insured so it won't be an issue. They'll probably issue some rule changes over it, but what's done is done.

I'd be shocked if the complex wasn't liable. Shit, here people get settlements for slipping and falling on the ice all the ****ing time because it's cheaper for the insurance companies just to pay people off than to fight it in court.

It's a party, so I'm assuming there was some drunkenness.
Stupid and drunk is a bad mix.

Stop partying with fat girls or keep them inside so they don't collapse wooden structures..added bonus is the neighbors won't see the fatties and make fun of you later

Your friend needs to read the lease agreement fine print. Might be a all city, county stc codes must be followed. There would also listed number of code to see pg and bk. Apartments and condos pay a good fee to write up contracts. |
